JORDAN AND COLLINS WIN, BARKER AND WILSON SECURE TRACK TITLES
The final points night of racing at the Thunder Mountain Speedway was a wild one, and saw 8 track champions crowned.
In the Modified action, Ryan Jordan started outside of Eric Leet, and led all 35 laps on his way to his second win of the year. Eric Leet finished second, while Alan Barker finished third and took the track title. It was an action-packed race, as Leet, Barker, and Darren Smith challenged for the top spots on numerous occasions after restarts. Shaun Walker came in leading the points, but Walker finished tenth, ceding the points lead to Barker.
In DIRTcar 358 Modified action, Tommy Collins took the lead from the pole and was able to dominate the race to take his second win of the year. Lance Willix challenged Collins for the top spot on a few occasions, but he would be forced to hold off a hard charging Matt Meade for second while Meade took third. Colton Wilson took a fourth-place finish, holding off title contenders Jordan McCreadie and Collins by a few mere points to take the 2021 track title.
In DIRTcar Sportsman action, Jordan Millard started on pole and led early as the field jockeyed for position behind him. Brian White charged from fifth to second early and was able to take the lead from Millard on the restart to take the race win after a caution-filled affair. Alan Fink finished 7th to officially claim his title, although Hunter Lapp in second was not going to be able to make up the gap regardless of what happened tonight.
The 600cc Modified points battle came down to the final laps, but Justin LaDue stayed comfortably in the lead all race long to claim a redeeming win after losing the race on the last lap last week. LaDue held off challenges from Ali Scutt and Brett Gray to take the win. Tyler Smith and Brenton Miller were the headline of the night in the points battle, and Smith came within one position of winning the title after passing Miller for 6th. He could not pass last week’s winner Jake Waibel for fifth, and lost the title by a single point.
In Street Stock action, Steven Deinhardt dominated the race and took the track title as well. Damon Decker was within ten points of Deinhardt, but was only able to muster a fourth place finish, not enough to unseat Deinhardt. Deinhardt won with a half track lead over second place Don Russell, who had a stout race overall. Shane Wolff Jr. looked posed to play spoiler but broke after passing his way up to third.
In Factory Stock action, Jason Rhodes took the win in an eventful affair. Mike Morse charged up from the rear of the field to second after multiple yellows slowed the field early. Morse pulled within a carlength of Rhodes at the end, but could not pull the victory off. Morse comfortably claimed the track title over Buck Mills Sr.
In the Budget Sportsman, Jonathan Fowlston took the win of the night after he reeled in Ray Reynolds and made a stellar last lap pass. Fowlston’s win iced the cake that is his 2021 championship, as he comfortably won over Eric Winsor.
Jr. Slingshot action saw Evan O’Hara dominate all night long to take the win and championship in the class. Kolt Gamble put together a strong night to finish runner up, with Liam Zacharias completing the podium.
Two events remain for Thunder Mountain Speedway; Monday September 6th for the Wade Decker Memorial, and Sunday September 12th for The Unruly Race.
