Sportsman's Colwell Memorial For Mods To Swartzlander

KNOX, PA Brian Swartzlander was victorious in Sunday night's 30-lap Bonnie Colwell Memorial big-block Modified Invitational at Sportsman's Speedway.

Swartzlander, of Leechburg, Pa., needed some good fortune to record his first win of the season at the one-third-mile oval.

First, Swartzlander inherited the lead on lap 23 when race- long pacesetter George Hobaugh of Karns City, Pa., dropped out with mechanical trouble.

Then Swartzlander held on to take the top prize despite the fact that smoke was billowing from his Teo-Pro No. 83 for the remaining laps.

Jeff Hoffman finished sec ond, followed by Jim Weller, Lonny Riggs and Scott Gurdak.

Steve Hollabaugh, mean while, captured the companion Limited Late Model feature. He took the lead from Jeff Henry on lap 11 and never looked back.

Andy Priest swept the night's pair of Sportsman Modified features. He won the held-over event from June 10 and the regularly-scheduled main.

Tom Snyder scored a con vincing victory in the Outlaw Stock feature.
