BARRY WHITE RACES TO THE MODIFIED VICTORY ON SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.
KIRKWOOD, NY…Barry White recorded the win in the 30 lap Modified feature at Five Mile Point Speedway on Saturday night. White became the third different Modified winner in three races this season at the quarter mile oval. Blaine Klinger was the Crate Sportsman feature winner for the second straight week and Shane Wolf, Jr. was the Street Stock victor.
For Barry White the 2021 racing season ended in a way that he did not want to remember. White had planned on making the 2021 season his final after a long and storied driver career in the Modified ranks. On Season Championship night White violently flipped his HigFab Chassis three times in the Modified feature. He immediately decided that he did not want to go out that way. White’s son-in-law Dan Creeden provided a chassis that had been sitting behind the shop and Barry was back last fall testing the car to be ready for 2022.
On Saturday, White proved he was ready. Aleia Geisler and White sat on the front row for the 30 lap Modified feature event. At the drop of the green White utilized the outside line to power into the race lead. The caution quickly fell on lap 2 as Greg Morgan made contact with the backstretch wall. That would be the only caution of the event.
When the green flag flew again White utilized the inside lane to maintain the lead over Geisler. Justin Holland ran in the third slot as he and Nick Rochinski had a strong battle in the early going. White opened up a sizeable lead over the field as the race hit the lap 10 mark. Holland was now applying the pressure to Geisler for the second spot on the speedway. The racing remained clean and green as White led the way to the mid-way point. Eddie Strada was making his move forward after starting tenth. The green flag laps allowed White to continue to open his lead as battles took place all the way around the quarter mile.
Holland was trying all routes around Geisler for second place and found the outside of the quarter mile to his liking. On lap 22 the complexity of the race changed when Holland wheeled into second place. White was still running the outside of the speedway but each lap Holland was closing the gap. If the race stayed caution free, lapped traffic would certainly play a role.
Over the final two laps White could see a three-car battle taking place ahead of him and had to know there would be a decision to be made. Holland closed in with two laps remaining and on the final lap he made his move. In turn 1 Holland took the lead with an inside move on White. The duo ran side by side down the backstretch and in turn 3 White turned the tables. White utilized the “slingshot move” from outside to charge to the inside of Holland for the lead out of turn four. The two ran side by side to the flaggers stand with White having enough for the win. Holland finished second and both drivers were all smiles as they pulled into post-race tech. Geisler had her best run of the season coming home in third place. Rochinski finished fourth with Dan Vauter completing the top five. Strada, Bobby Puckett, Brett Tonkin, Frank Yankowski and Glen Knapp completed the top ten spots. Heat winners were Holland and Vauter.
For the second straight week Blaine Klinger emerged the winner of the Crate Sportsman feature event. Like the week prior Klinger led wire to wire in a caution free event as the Sportsman drivers continue to put on great racing each week. Klinger and Seth Zacharias brought the field to the green flag at the start of the 20 lap main event. Klinger got the advantage in turn 1 over Zacharias and back-to-back Track Champion Gary Smith was looking to take advantage. Smith immediately dove under Zacharias as they battled for second place. This quick battle allowed Klinger to open his advantage. Smith worked past Zacharias as now Adam Gilbert was looking to move forward. Out front Klinger maintained his lead over Smith as Gilbert looked to take third from Zacharias. After an initial challenge Gilbert settled into fourth place. Klinger would never be challenged enroute to his second straight win. Smith finished second with Zacharias and Gilbert crossing the line in that order. Meckenzie Marsh had her best career finish in fifth place after a race long battle with Matt Brewer.
Shane Wolf, Jr. returned to the Street Stock wars on Saturday and led the duration in the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Like the Sportsman, the Street Stock main event went caution free. Wolf held off back-to-back winner Jon Carpenter for the victory. Kurt Decker, Tyler Yeagle and Doug Polhamus completed the top five.
Jared Green remained undefeated in the 600 Modified division by winning the 20 lap feature on Saturday. This time he did it in a new fashion. He and Nick Kennedy traded cars on Saturday and Green showed that he is “in the zone” at the quarter mile oval as he drove a different car with the same result. He will face a bounty when racing resumes on June 4th. Michael Robinson had a strong run to finish second with Kennedy, Dustin Jones and Paige Straway completing the top five.
Jason Beebe bounced back from an early race trip to the pits to win the 20 lap Factory Stock feature event. Sheldon Whitman led most of the event only to have his car overheat late in the race forcing him to the pits. Beebe, Todd Sutliff, Blake Furman, Whitman and Caden McPherson made up the top five finishers.
Danielle Smith was a repeat winner in the 20 lap Futures Sportsman division. The class continues to grow and impress with great racing each Saturday. Scott Zehnacker, Joe Buchanan, Joe Cole and Buck Brown completed the top five.
Dave Simms made a late race pass on Scott Beach to claim the top honors in the Four Cylinder Expert class on Saturday. Beach, Mike Jenks, Tim Vandemark and Brian Salmini completed the top five. It was the first time that Tim Vandemark did not win the feature race.
The Four Cylinder Novice feature saw a spirited battle between Cody Ames and Todd Maynard over the final laps of their feature event. Ames was able to hold Maynard off for his first Five Mile Point Speedway win.
