Outlaw Speedway Summer Nationals Results
DYLAN YODER (ULMS), MATT TANNER (ESS), DANNY JOHNSON (Modifieds), CAYDEN LAWSON (Crate Sportsman), CARL CLEVELAND (Street Stocks) and AJ HOFFNER (SCDRA) all find victory lane at 9th Annual Outlaw Speedway Steve Kent Memorial Summer Nationals.
Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.
(Dundee, NY) Under perfect weather conditions, one hundred twenty- three cars jammed into the Outlaw Speedway pit area for the 9th running of the Steve Kent Memorial Summer Nationals.
With a capacity crowd on hand, fans were treated to a wide variety of different classes of competition including Super Late Models, 360 Winged Sprints, Open Wheel Modifieds and 602 Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks and Front Wheel Driven Mini Stocks.
In the UNITED LATE MODEL SERIES fifteen of the ground pounding monsters of the midway would take to the Fast 4/10 of a mile clay oval for their thirty -lap feature with local favorite, Dylan Cecce in his potent Russ Clark Motorsports machine bringing the field to the opening green.
Cecce would immediately distance himself from the rest of the field by nearly a half a track as he was into lap traffic within the opening half dozen laps and for the former, Bath, NY speedster, now residing in Avis, Pa. it appeared like he was well on his way to his first triumph in a Super Late Model at the track he once called home.
With Cecce comfortably in front and on cruise control the first caution flag waved at the halfway mark on lap fifteen for Mike Smith of Arkport, NY who slowed in turns three and four.
Once back to action Cecce would continue to set a torrid pace, but he was now under fire from Dylan Yoder who began the event lined up inside row three.
Deep into the second half of the thirty-lap feature, Yoder was able to clear the #18 machine of Cecce and go on to a comfortable four second victory with a disappointed Dylan Cecce holding off a late race rally by Vestal, NY’s, Seth Zacharias as the pair would complete the podium.
For Zacharias it was no walk in the park as he lined up eighth on the opening grid and used some nifty moves to advance to third.
Andrew Yoder of Middleburg, Pa. along with Logan Zarin of Hookstown, Pa. would go on to round out the top five.

The ULMS Super Late Model Series will return to Outlaw on Friday, September 13 for the running of the Annual Ted Sir Memorial.
After an earlier season washout of the Spring Nationals which was scheduled for April 2024, the Empire Super Sprints made their first appearance at the popular Yates County oval and they did not disappoint as a full twenty-four car field of the wonderful 360 winged creations took the opening green for their twenty-five lap A Main with South Onondaga, NY native, Shawn Donath and Stephentown, NY speedster, Matt Tanner bringing the field to green.
Tanner would get the jump and lead all twenty-five laps of the green to checkered feature which was run off in just under seven minutes as his margin of victory was 1.3 seconds over Donath who had to settle for the runner-up spot.
Third place at the double checkered flags went to versatile Port Jervis, NY wheelman, Billy VanInwegen piloting the Paul Colagiovanni owned 10v machine as he advanced from outside row four on the opening grid to claim the final podium position.
Fourth and fifth went to Jordan Thomas who lined up tenth as he was chased across the line by Jonathan Preston who dropped one position from his outside row two starting spot to complete the top five.

The Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds were just one of three weekly divisions that regularly compete at the Outlaw Speedway on the nights card of events as the Mighty Modifieds put a solid field of twenty-cars on the grid for their thirty-lap feature event.
Seneca Falls, NY brothers Tommy and Billy Paine would bring the field to green with Dundee native, Brady Fultz and Phelps, NY veteran, Danny Johnson comprising the second starting row.
Fultz and The Doctor, Danny Johnson would control the pace throughout most of the non-stop green to checkered run as the pair would distance themselves from the remainder of the field and when the checkered flag dropped and much to the delight of the capacity crowd it was the Doctor of Modified Racing, Danny Johnson claiming his first feature of the season piloting his Tim Gibson owned machine.
Fultz was able to keep pace throughout the entire distance, but at the end of the day Johnson was just too much to manage with the margin of victory a full two and half seconds between the top two and for Fultz it was a good recovery after leading last week’s feature only to succumb to rear end problems.
Ron Cartwright Jr. of Portville began the thirty-lap grind inside row three had one of his better finishes at Outlaw in recent memory as the veteran Modified competitor would go on to finish third.
Rookie contender, Kreg Crooker of Savona, NY would line up alongside of Cartwright outside row two and go on to claim fourth at the finish in another impressive run as pole position starter, Tommy Paine would drift to complete the top five in an event that was run off in record time.
With The Doctor’s victory he adds to his over six hundred feature win total through a career that has spanned some fifty years and proves that he still has the stuff to compete.
Johnson joins Matt Sheppard, Ajay Potrzebowski Jr., Alex Payne, Bobby Varin, Jeff Daugherty and Stewart Friesen who have all visited victory lane at the Outlaw Speedway in 2024.
In Sunrise Insulation/Knapp and Schlappi Lumber 602 Crate Sportsman twenty-five lap feature action the father/son duo of Greg and Carter Crooker would bring the twenty-two car field to Raymond Kennerup’s opening green flag and like the Empire Super Sprints and the Modifieds before them the Crate Sportsman did not disappoint as they too would zip right through their feature event.
Third generation, Addison, NY pilot Cayden Lawson would line up right behind Greg Crooker inside the second starting row and from there go on to his first “W” of the season at Outlaw in the super competitive Sportsman Division which now has six different feature winners thus far in 2024.
For Cayden Lawson and his entire family, it was one for the books at a track where both his grandfather, Don and father Donnie have competed and won throughout their careers.
However, it did not come easy as last week’s feature winner, Ben Feldman would hound Lawson with the margin of victory about a car length.
Greg Crooker had his best finish of the season winding up third as he was chased across the line by Brett Buono and Andrew Clark who would complete the top five.
In the Swarthout Recycling Street Stock Division, Tim Grady and Zach Teed would bring the fourteen-car field to green for their twenty-lap feature with Carl Cleveland and Chris Woodard comprising row two.
Cleveland would work his way around both Grady and Teed and go on to his first Outlaw Speedway victory of 2024 and his first since 2018 and for the veteran Dundee native it was a popular victory for the man that has competed at Outlaw for over four decades.
With Cleveland comfortably in front and on cruise control a spirited battle was shaping up for second on back as current class point leader, Gene Sharpsteen had his hands full with the likes of Brett Crawford who had moved through the field from his inside row four starting spot as well as three time 2024 feature winner, Damon Decker who began the event in the ninth starting slot, but when the double checkered flags waved over the field it was Cleveland by a full three seconds over Sharpsteen who had yet another bridesmaid finish.
Crawford would go on for one of his best runs of the season by completing the podium as he was chased across the line by Decker.
Woodard, who began the event in fourth would lose one spot to round out the top five.
For the first time in its history, the SCDRA (Sport Compact Dirt Racing Association) Front Wheel Driven 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks would make their way to the Dundee, NY facility with a full contingent of twenty-seven subcompact machines taking the green for their thirty-lap feature.
With only a few exceptions, most of the drivers had never seen Outlaw Speedway prior to this night’s competition as many of them had made several hours long tows all looking for the $2,500 winner’s share.
The SCDRA Northeast Division was to have been a part of the Outlaw Speedway 9th Annual Spring Nationals which was lost in April due to rain, however they put on a great race which did see a few caution flags which kept the pace slowed and the field bunched.
At the end of the thirty-lap feature it was AJ Hoffner picking up the huge $2,500 winner’s check and he did it convincingly by nearly a half track victory, but from second through fourth it was a real slug fest with Brad Whiteside holding off Josh Frantz and Chris Leone in a three car tussle for second through fourth.
For Whiteside, his runner-up finish netted him a cool $1200.00.
Chris Anderson would go on to complete the top five.

Congratulations to all competitors!
Outlaw Speedway Tidd Bits.
With time trialing completed in both the ULMS Super Late Model Series as well as the SCDRA Northeast Front Wheel Drive Mini Stock Divisions by 8:30 pm the entire program of heats and features for the six division show was run off in just under four hours including one hundred-sixty laps of feature action, most of which went off caution free in less than two hours including victory lane interviews.
Outlaw Speedway’s track surface was once again wide and racy like it has been all season providing for three and for wide racing throughout the entire night.
Pit Parking was at a premium with many of the Modified, Sprint and Late Model teams in competition sporting huge toter haulers and stacker trailers, however all race teams were able to make their way into the back straightaway pit parking area.
Albeit Track owner/promoter, Tyler Siri had a tough night with his #5-star Teo Modified finishing a disappointing seventeenth and the last car on the lead lap of the Modified thirty lap feature, he was very pleased with the huge turnout of both fans and drivers for the 9th Annual Steve Kent Summer Nationals.
Knowing full well what to expect in the Late Models, Sprints, Modifieds, Crate Sportsman and Street Stocks, this was the first time Siri had booked the SCDRA Northeast Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks and their hefty purse structure. However, a solid field was on hand most all with immaculate equipment and brilliant color schemes.
UP NEXT AT OUTLAW SPEEDWAY.
Friday, August 2, 2024 will see the track open the month of August with a Regular Super 5 Show with a special King of the Ring one-on-one elimination event for the NAPA Hobby Stocks.
