Hartnett Outruns Holland at Penn Can

May 19, 2025

By Nathan Aldrich

SUSQUEHANNA, PA-Kevin Hartnett collected the Modified win at the Penn Can speedway Friday Night, besting last week’s winner Justin Holland in a 30 lap battle that saw the pair start on the front row. Lapped traffic would be the deciding factor as long green flag runs have been the norm to start the season. After a jumped start and early first lap caution the Modifieds clicked off the rest of the race under the green. Hartnett led the way, ripping the heavy cushion as he and Holland drove away from third place running Brian Puckett.

As the race approached halfway Hartnett reached the tail of the field, clearing Ken Titus on the topside. Holland would be delayed trying to follow Hartnett around the topside, but quickly closed the gap as Bobby Puckett and John Michael Phillips battled for position in front of Hartnett. The leaders ran side by side behind Phillips and Puckett, each looking for a way to squeeze by. Hartnett would take a crack at it, nosing up the middle and getting pinched out. As they sailed into turn 3 Phillips cleared Puckett, leaving room for Hartnett to take the inside with Holland in tow. The loss in momentum would haunt Holland as Hartnett opened up a ten car length lead with 5 laps remaining. Hartnett took the checkered flag with Holland, Brian Puckett, Brian Malcolm and Brad Szulewski completing the top 5.

Feature winner Kevin Hartnett was quick to thank the Grammes family and drew quite the crowd in Victory Lane. Kevin wanted to thank Matt Brewer for his support Friday night and said the car is still getting dialed in early in the season. With 15.8 second lap times Friday Night Hartnett is proud of where they stand.
