Fonda, N.Y. Saturday night was a big one for Schenectady's George Sifo. The modified wheelman picked up his first feature win of the 1981 campaign at Fonda Speedway in the 35 lap modified event.

And in order to accomplish this fete, Sido had to hold off a pretty tough group of competitors, namely Dave Lape of Canajoharie, Jack Cottrell of Rock City Falls, Clarence C.D. Coville of Schenectady and another Schenectadian, Jack Johnson.

Sifo established himself as the driver to beat early as he moved in front on the first lap. He had the fast groove at the Track of Champions and pushed his modified to a comman ding advantage through the 35 laps of racing, finally pulling in-to victory lane, a happy driver, with his initial Fonda Speed-way victory.

Lape came in second followed by Cottrell, Coville and Johnson.

Lou Lazzaro of Utica, Tom Wilson of Waterville, Bob Sitterly of St. Johnsville and Bob Rees of Charleston Four Corners were the heat race winners in the modified division.

Randy Glenski of Utica saw his dream of a sixth straight feature win go down the drain in the 20 lap late model feature as Paul Jensen of South Berlin came on strong to pick up his Initial feature win in this division at Fonda this year.

Glenski, who had won every feature at the Montgomery CJounty Fairgrounds half-mile dirt track in 1981, had mechanical troubles and wound up 14th in the feature race.

Bill Roese of Central Bridge came in second while Dick Schoonover of Burlington Flats finished third. Jensen and Glenski copped heat races.

Dan Ody of Albany was the victor in the 10 lap spectator division race, the first of the season at Fonda

The modifieds battle in a 35 lap feature while the late models compete in a 20; lapper and the spectator division sedans return to action at Fonda Speedway this Saturday evening beginning at 7:15 p.m.
