LEBANON VALLEY RESULTS
Tension filled the air as the modifieds took to the track for the last of the regular events for the 1981 racing season for modifieds. Defending high point champion Don Ackner and 7 time high point champion Tom Corellis were tied for the lead in the points and it was down to one race. Handicapping for the main is down by the finishes of the last 3 weeks which found Ackner 10th on the field and Corellis 19th. A caution helped Corellis move up and by the second lap he had passed Ackner and was moving toward the front. Ackner had broken a rear axle and was forced to ride around on the apron in hopes that Corellis in the no. 57 Hughes Bros. would also run into problems. Ackner's hopes were to no avail as Corellis took over the lead from Mark Fleury on lap 10 and looked like he was on his way to the checker. With Corellis having passed Dick Larkin in the Williams no. 44 once no one was giving Larkin a chance of catching Corellis but lap after lap he was moving up on Corellis. Side by side through the turns; down the straightaway; all over the track Larkin was making his presence known until on the 26th lap when he was able to forge ahead and go on to his second feature win of the season with Corellis coming in second but more impor tant picking up his 8th track championship at Lebanon Valley. Both Larkin and Corellis put on a show for the fans that will take a long time to duplicate.
Coming in a distant third and also placing third in the modified point standings was Win Slavin with rookie Mike Dolan fourth and Garry Waters rounding out the top five.
Chuck Higley grapped the lead in the sportsman main event only to lose it to Eddie Marshall on the 10th lap. Marshall was doing an excellent job of holding down the lead until the 18th lap when the old master Claude Hoard pulled along side and out-maneuvered Marshall and went on to win his 3rd feature of the season. Marshall held on for second with Denny Young coming in third. Danny Watson came in fourth and was able to move into first place in the point standings with George Marcus rounding out the top five. Next Saturday night is the last night for the sportsman points and both Hec-tor Stratton in the no. 273 and Danny Watson in the no. 10 both have a chance at picking up their first point champion-ship
