JOHNSON WINS SECOND OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY ON FERRIS INDUSTRIES NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Alan Johnson won his seond DIRT Big Block Modified feature of the season at Brewerton Speedway Friday on Ferris Industries Night. Johnson took the top spot away from Craig Terrell on lap-27 and went on to the win in the Troyer House Car. The victory for the H&H Motorsports DIRT Big Block Modified team was worth $2,000.
Craig Terrell raced out to the early lead at the start of the Ferris Industries DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. After five circuits Terrell continued to lead the all-star cast with Vinnie Vitale, Tom Sears, Chuck Hebing and Tim Sears following in the top five. Action was at a tremendous pace on the tacky, dust-free race surface.
At the halfway mark of the main event Terrell was still in command of the field in search of his first-ever victory at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Vitale, Hebing, Alan Johnson, Matt Sheppard, Tim Fuller, Billy Decker, Tim Sears, Gary Tomkins and Chuck Bower raced in positions second through fifth respectively at the halfway stage.
Just when it appeared that Terrell was on his way to victory lane, it was time for Johnson to make his standard charge. It was on lap-27 when Johnson was able to work his way around Terrell for the top spot. Terrell continued to try to regain the spot, but Johnson steadily pulled away for the eventual win. Gary Tomkins charged up to the runner-up position at the finish.
Terrell had to settle for a strong third place finish. Fuller and Hebing completed the top five feature finishers. Vitale, Sheppard, Bower, Pat Ward and Decker finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
Sean Lias won his fourth IMCA Modified feature of the season Friday night. Lias rebounded from drive-line problems in his heat race to win the main event from the 25th starting position. Dale Caswell, Bob Bradt, Johnny Hill and Pat Pontello completed the top five feature finishers behind Lias. Caswell led the first 16-laps of the main event before Lias was able to move past.
Darren Forbes also became a four-time feature winner this season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Forbes was the winner of the Dwarf Car / Mod Lite main event. Brian Woodhall, Frank Doll Jr., Mike Isabell and Jeff Barker followed Forbes across the finish line. Doll was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car with a strong third place finish.
Jeff Herbert returned to the winners circle at the conclusion of the 15-lap Four Cylinder Super Stock main event. Ken Klinkowsky, Chuck Powelczyk, Lee Hartzog and Walt VanEpps chased Herbert across the finish line. Herbert passed Klinkowsky on lap-13 for the victory.
Chad Guthrie won the Four Cylinder Enduro main event. Rick Hendricks, Ron Hunt, Jerry Herbert and Sam Curcie followed in the top five.
Action will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the Holiday Spectacular. In race competition will be the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars / Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks. A gigantic fireworks display will also be presented.
