FULLER REMAINS UNBEATABLE AT THE "PORT"

WEEDSPORT, NY...Tim Fuller made it two DIRT Modified feature wins in a row under threatening skies last Sunday at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway. In other action Eric Richardson won the 20-lap Sportsman main, while James Henry won the 20-lap Pro-Stock special. In full fender street stock action it was Dan Hoffman Sr, with Dan Hoffman Jr. winning the 25-lap enduro.

Jeff Brownell, aboard the Danny Johnson orange number 27J, due to the fact his regular car was damaged the night before at Canandaigua Speedway, immediately took command of the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature at the drop of the green. Second place Vince Vitale tried to make a low side move for the lead on lap three, but fell short. On lap five the yellow waved for the first time when Justin Haers slowed on the track. He too was driving a borrowed car, the Vic Coffey back car.

Brownell continued to lead with Vitale in second. Young gun, Tim McCreadie, had now blasted his way into third with Jimmy Phelps running in fourth.

On lap nine the yellow flew again when Jimmy Phelp's front end seemed to collapse and he slowed on the front stretch. The restart saw the three leaders come together in the fourth turn resulting in Danny Johnson and Tim McCreadie sitting on the track and Brownell's car stuffed backwards into the inside concrete wall. This sent the rest of the field scattering.

Billy Decker now found himself in the lead with Fuller in second followed by Pat Ward and Matt Sheppard. However Sheppard's great run was about to end as he drifted high in the first turn and came to a halt with a flat tire. He pitted and quickly returned to the rear of the field.

Decker and Fuller now drew away from the rest of the field. On lap 23, Fuller ducked low in the second turn and complete the pass for the lead on Decker. The yellow flew again on lap 27 when Tim McCreadie came to a stop on the back stretch. The final yellow flew four laps later, lap 31, when Alan Johnson came to a halt on the track with a flat.

Fuller held off Decker over the final four laps to take the victory. Ward came home in third followed by Gary Tomkins and Chuck Bower. The acidents slowed the pace of the race to just 71.888 mph average.

Eric Richardson led all 20-laps of the DIRT Sportsman main start from the outside pole. The only yellow of the race came on lap 11 when Ricky VanNeil looped his mount in the second turn and Donnie Wetmore Jr. went around in the first turn.

Following the yellow Bob Henry Jr. made a charge at Richardson, but could never muster enough power to complete the pass. At the finish line it was Richardson by .692 seconds over Henry Jr.. Kevin Bates, Tom Juhl and Greg Doust rounded out the top five. The average speed for the event was 75.044 mph.

The Street Stocks hit the speedway before both open wheel features and ran part of their race under slight misty conditions. Pole sitter Dave Emmons grabbed the lead at the start and held off Dan Hoffman Sr. for 19 laps and then the yellow flew. Jim Brown looped his machine in the second turn.

On the restart, with one lap remaining, Emmons seemed to falter, allowing Hoffman Sr. to take the lead. Emmons held on to second at the wire. Frank Burnell, Mike Minutolo and Dave Marcuccilli rounded out the top five finishers.

A special 20-lap Pro-Stock feature was held with James Henry leading the entire 20 laps from his outside pole starting spot. The top seven cars raced nose-to-tail around the 3/8 mile oval for nine laps when the yellow flew as Jeremy Clark looped his number 25 in the first turn.

Henry continued to hold pole sitter Beamer Guzzardi at bay. In the back of the field Clark was making up for his mistake, passing one car after another. As he exited the fourth turn on lap 19 his engine seemed to go sour and he coasted to a stop in the second turn. At the finish line it was Henry taking the checkers followed by Guzzardi, Frank Guererri Jr., Brian Thompson and Lee Burnett. Henry averaged 68.713 mph during the race.

CCFS SHORTS: The most tense moment of the races came on the first lap of the Modified Consolation race when Billy Dunn literally sailed over the third turn wall and out of the park. His car landed on all fours and was towed back to then pits.

This Sunday the annual DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies are schedule to start off the afternoon activities at 2 p.m. in the Museum. Following the induction ceremonies the Cayuga County Fair Speedway will play host to the Bill McNabb Memorial Class, featuring DIRT Modifieds, Sportsman and Enduros. The DIRT Modifieds will be running a 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series event, complete with time trials start at 6 p.m. sharp.
