BILLY DECKER WINS DYNOMAX 100-AN ADVANCE AUTO PARTS SUPER DIRT SERIES EVENT AT RANSOMVILLE;
DAVE JUST WINS SPORTSMAN MAIN
Ransomville, NY - Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY took top honors in the Dynomax 100 at Ransomville Speedway aboard his Mirabito Fuels/Adam Ross Cut Stone sponsored Bicknell chassis. Decker took over the lead on lap sixty-nine from Danny Johnson and quickly pulled away from the remainder of the field enroute to victory.
Brett Hearn and Chuck Bower shared the front row by virtue of the re-draw for the main event which was sponsored in part by Mighty Taco, E-Z Oil, and Johnstons Restaurant. At the drop of the green it was Bower taking the early lead followed closely by Hearn and Danny Johnson. The top three pulled away from the remainder of the field as Johnson went to work on Hearn. Lap five found Johnson dive to the bottom of Hearn and claim the runner up position. The doctor wasn't through yet as he went to work on Bower on lap six and made the pass using the inside lane. Bower, Hearn, Steve Paine, and Billy Decker rounded out the top five.
Johnson began to work on lapped traffic as Hearn moved into second. Bower now had to contend with Decker for the third position while points leader Alan Johnson broke into the top five. Decker made the pass on Bower for third on lap eighteen and set his sights on the leaders. Decker was able to take advantage of lapped traffic and move within two car lengths of Hearn by lap twenty-two just as the caution flew for Rich Vinson who came to rest in the front stretch moat.
The restart found Johnson choose the outside lane and maintain the top spot. Alan Johnson was the man on the move as he took over third place from Decker. As the race reached the 1/3 mark, Hearn was challenging for the lead with Alan and Decker right there. The top four pulled away from fifth place runner Tim McCreadie as Alan pressured Hearn for the runner up position. Danny switched to the bottom groove while Alan and Hearn ran side by side for second. You could have put a blanket over the top three as they exited turn four on lap thirty-nine and encountered heavy lapped traffic. Brian Stevens and Tim Fuller became hooked on the back stretch on lap forty-seven bringing out the caution.
Johnson set the pace on the restart and held the lead as Decker took over the second position from Hearn. Decker went to work on Johnson on the bottom while Danny ran the extreme top trying to catch the cushion which was dangerously close to the guardrail. Another caution flew on lap fifty-four for Randy Chrysler who had mechanical difficulties in turn three.
Johnson maintained the top spot on the restart with Decker a tight second. Decker and Johnson put on a great show for the fans as Danny tried valiantly to keep Decker at bay. It was a battle he would lose as Decker took over the top spot on lap sixty-nine. Alan was the next to challenge Danny as Decker pulled away. Alan and Danny put on a classic Johnson duo as the event neared the ten to go mark. At the checkered it was Decker in for the win over Danny, Alan, Tim McCreadie, and Hearn.
Time trials found Brett Hearn with the quickest lap and Ransomville regular Chad Brachmann setting the second fastest time.
Dave Just of Ransomville, NY collected his first win of the season aboard the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman main. Just took over the top spot on lap three and led the remaining twenty-two laps holding off Stewart Friesen at the checkered.
Pat McCoy took the early lead followed closely by Just, Dave Kubiniec, Rob Kott, and Sean Kott. The first caution flew on lap two for Kyle Inman who came to a stop on the back stretch. McCoy chose the inside lane on the restart putting Just on the outside which proved to be the better lane as Just took over the lead. Just immediately distanced himself from the remainder of the field as McCoy, Rob Kott, Mark Potter and Friesen rounded out the top five. Friesen advanced to third on lap ten but found the top two with a large advantage.
The race continued to go clean and green until Scott Kerwin hopped the wheel of Sean Kott and ended up collecting the turn three guardrail on lap eleven. Kerwin was unable to keep his car against the wall and as a result collected the car of Sean Kott. Just chose the outside lane and maintained the top spot as Friesen battled McCoy for second. Friesen continued his challenge and took over the runner up position on lap fifteen. Jeff McGinnis and Potter were putting on a great show for fourth as they battled side by side. As the final laps dwindled down, Friesen continued to try and close the gap on Just but to no avail as Just held on for his first win of the season. Friesen, McCoy, McGinnis, and Potter rounded out the top five.
Pitnotes-Congratulations to Kyle Inman who captured his first heat win aboard the Sportsman division.
