PETE BICKNELL, KEVIN WILLS, DAN SHOOP AND MATT GILLINGHAM WIN RAIN DELAYED FEATURES AT RANSOMVILLE; DANNY JOHNSON, SCOTT KERWIN, DAVE SCHULZ, JOE RICKARD, AND DEREK BOYLE TAKE REGULAR NIGHT CHECKERS

Mother nature finally cooperated with Ransomville Speedway allowing them to

complete the rained out features from May 14th along with another full program last

Friday night. A total of sixteen races-10 of which were full features-were completed in under four hours time. Hats off to all of the officials, track maintenance, and the drivers for a job well done. Pete Bicknell of St. Catharines, Ontario topped the field in the rain delayed Mighty Taco Modified thirty lap feature go. Bicknell took the lead away from Todd Gordon with just a hand full of laps remaining aboard his Bicknell Racing Products sponsored machine.

Rick Hoctor held to the top spot as the modifieds took the green flag. Gordon,

Mark Golding, Mike Bliss, and Gil Tegg rounded out the top five. The race continued

with green flag racing with the top guns pinned deep in the pack. Hoctor built up a fifteen car length lead by lap twelve as Bicknell broke into the top five. Hoctor slipped high in turn four allowing Gordon by for the lead on lap ninteen. Bicknell reeled in the top two taking over second with just eight laps remaining. With five laps left, Bicknell caught Gordon taking over the top spot on lap twenty-six. Hoctor’s top five run came to a disappointing end as he headed pitside with mechanical woes. Bicknell captured his first checkered of the season at Ransomville followed by Gordon, Johnson, Krull, and Vinson.

Kevin Wills of Ransomville, NY took top honors aboard the rained delayed

Original Pizza Logs Sportsman main event. Wills took the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back taking the win in dominating style.

John Hagerman led the field to the green and held the lead through lap one. Lap

two found Wills take over the top spot followed by Scott George as he emerged into

second. Billy Bleich collected the turn three guardrail bringing out the first caution.

During this caution event, Kerwin ducked pitside to remove mud from his tire and had to go tail for the restart. Hagerman also suffered mechanical difficulties and headed pitside.

Wills led the field down for the restart maintaining the top spot over George, Mark Feor, Dave Just, and Charczak. Wills and George pulled away from the field as they reachedthe half-way point. McGinnis took over fourth as Kerwin flirted with the top five on lap fifteen. McGinnis advanced to third but found the leaders over a straight-away ahead.Wills maintained the top spot through the final laps taking his first checkered of the season. George, McGinnis, Feor, and Kerwin rounded out the top five.

Dan Shoop of Lockport, NY captured the rain delayed Bobcat of Buffalo

ProStock feature event leading the entire twenty circuits. Shoop held off persistent

challenges from both Butch Zimmerman and Dave Williams for his first win of the

season.

Shoop and Jeremy Wilson shared the front row for the ProStock main event from

May 14th. Shoop took the lead at the drop of the green followed by Wilson, Butch

Zimmerman, Dan Mayer, and Dave Williams. Zimmerman took over the second position on lap two as Shoop extended his lead. Zimmerman challenged Shoop for the top spot with Williams in tow. Mayer ran fourth as Mike Williams challenged Gribben for fifth. The top three ran nose to tail as the field received the five to go from starter Jipp Ortiz. Williams took over second and moved in on Shoop as the caution was displayed for Wilson who came to rest on the back stretch. At the checkered it was Shoop, Williams, Mayer, Gribben, and John Panattoni.

Matt Gillingham of Sanborn, NY topped the field in the rained delayed Previtys

Motor Cars Streetstock main event. Gillingham took the lead away from John Schultz on lap lap nine and led the field through the remaining laps enroute to his first checkered flag of the season.

Schultz took the lead away from Gillingham on the lap six restart followed by

Mike Short, Dave Jowdy, and John Dietz. Gillingham and Short made their way by

Schultz for the top two positions. Gillingham built up a half a straight away lead by lap eleven as Schultz made his way back by Short for second. At the checkered it was Gillingham followed by Schultz, Short, Dietz, and Derek Boyle. Rookie contender Ricky Washburn had a great run coming home in sixth.

Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY took top honors aboard the Mighty Taco

Modified feature go last Friday night. Johnson took the lead away from Gil Tegg with just a few laps remaining aboard his Orange Crush/Lisa Maroney owned machine.

Mark Sylvies and Don Spatarico led the field down for the initial start with

Spatarico taking control. Sylvies, Gil Tegg, Ray Bliss, and Sam Crogan rounded out the top five. Tegg took over the top spot on lap twelve as Chad Brachmann, Sam Crogan, and Ricky Richner ran three wide through turns three and four. Three wide does not work as Crogan found out the hard way. Contact was made sending him around in turn four bringing out the caution. The top five on the restart were Tegg, Bliss, Spatarico, Richner, and Johnson. Tegg maintained the top spot with Richner, Brachmann, Johnson, and Bicknell on his rear bumper. The top three went three wide into turn one for the top spot on lap nineteen. You could have put a blanket over the top four as Johnson joined the battle. Contact between Richner and Brachmann sent Brachmann into the turn one guardrail. Brachmann bounced off-lost only three positions-and continued on. With nine to go, Tegg led Richner, Johnson, and Bicknell back to green flag racing. Once again, the top three ran two and three wide for the top spot with Bicknell sticking his nose in as well. Johnson took over second from Richner using the highside and then ducked under Tegg in the same corner for the lead. Contact between Johnson and Tegg sent Tegg into the moat...only to lose three positions. Johnson was able to maintain the top spot and collect his second feature event of the season. Bicknell, Richner, Tegg, and Chrysler rounded out the top five.

Scott Kerwin captured the win aboard the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman main

event. After suffering some bad luck in the earlier feature and heat race, Kerwin took his Mark Cerrone, Inc./Good Guys Transmission sponsored machine to the top spot on lap fifteen and went on for his first win of the season.

2003 DIRT Rookie of the year Kyle Inman led the first go-rounds aboard the

twenty-five lap event with Mark Potter and Scott Kerwin in tow. Contact back in the pack resulted in heavy damage on the Jim Zimmerman machine. As Inman and Potter battled side by side for the lead, Kerwin watched patiently in third. Tony Purgarich and Mark Schulz rounded out the top five. The top three put on a great show for the fans as they battled tough and nail for the top spot. Kerwin officially took over the second position on lap fourteen. One circuit later, Kerwin took over the top spot and never looked back. Kerwin took the checkered followed by Potter, Wills, Inman, and Schulz.

Dave Schulz and Pete Stefanski gave the fans their monies worth as they came

across the line in a photo finish aboard the Bobcat of Buffalo ProStock main event.

Schulz was able to beat Stefanski to the line by mere inches using the pattened Danny Johnson lane...the front stretch moat.

It was a front row family affair as Jeremy Wilson shared the front row of the

twenty lap feature main event with his uncle Butch Zimmerman. Stefanski challenged for the lead on lap four taking over the position coming off turn two. Steve Lewis challenged for second as Schulz watched in fourth. Stefanski pulled away to a full straight-away lead as Schulz challenged Zimmerman for second. Stefanski was able to maintain the top spot through several caution events and appeared to be on his way to his second win of the season. Schulz had other plans as he mounted a challenge on the final lap taking the win in a photo finish. Stefanski, Lewis, Dan Shoop, and John Panattoni rounded out the top five.

Joe Rickard of Lewiston, NY captured the win in the first Previtys Motor Cars

Streetstock event. Rickard took the lead away from Dan Baughman with four laps

remaining in the fifteen lap event going on for the win.

Dan Baughman and Rickard battled for the top spot in the early going. Rick

Gorhan and Roger Israel joined the frey as the field reached the lap five mark. Baughman continued to show the way through the half-way point followed very closely by Rickard, Gorhan, and Israel. Dave Stolzenburg ran a distance fifth. Digger Lester made contact with the outside retaining barrier and came to a stop at the entrance of the pit booth. Jeff Weigand hit the brakes to avoid the Lester car collecting Roger Israel in the process. With four laps remaining, Rickard took over the top spot going on for the win. Gorhan, Baughman, Stolzenburg, and Steve Shoop rounded out the top five.

Derek Boyle of Middleport, NY made a great move coming off turn four of the

second Previtys Motor Cars Streetstock main for what he thought was second place. After post race inspections, Jaren Israel was dis-qualified moving Boyle up to the top spot and his first win of the season.

Jowdy and Israel brought the field down for the start of the second Previtys Motor

Cars Streetstock main event. Israel took the early lead followed by Jowdy, Derek Boyle, Eric Ben, and Webb Nashwinter. Boyle pressured Jowdy for second as the top five pulled away from the field by lap five. The event when green to checkered with Israel incommand the entire fifteen laps. Boyle made a last lap move to the highside of Jowdy for the second position at the line. Mike Short and Ben rounded out the top five. As reported, Israel was dis-qualified in post race inspecitions moving Boyle to the top spot.

Debbie Baughman picked up the win in the first Ladies Race of the season.
