LAFARGEVILLE, NY.....'Flatfoot' Frankie Caprara got the maximum use of his big block's horsepower on a heavy track surface to score the win in Saturday night's 30-lap DIRT Modified feature at Caprara's Can-Am Motorsports Park on Massey's Furniture Barn/New York Air Brake night.
Bill Gill led the early portion of the feature event, which was red flagged just before halfway for a multi car tangle in turn four that saw Brian McDonald's car flip. All drivers were OK, but the incident knocked out Bob McCreadie, McDonald, Tim O'Brien, and Lee Gill. Caprara came up through the pack on the restart and took the lead with ten to go to collect the feature win. Gill took second, but failed post race inspection, moving Jason Barney into the runnerup spot. Danny O'Brien, Ryan Bartlett, and Mitch Gibbs rounded out the top five.
The 20-lap Sportsman feature began with Billy Eisele leading while Matt Butler, Scott Webb, Kenny Stafford, and Jack Meeks all mixed it up for position behind him. Webb tangled with Scott Parliament and both cars spun at the top of turn four. Meeks moved into second and passed Eisele for the lead on lap 12 as Stafford moved into second. Stafford ran down Meeks and took a shot at the win on the final lap, but Meeks held him off. Eisele took the third spot, followed by Jason Potter and Kyle Dingwall.
The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature saw four wide action in the opening laps as Dan Hilts overtook Mark Webb for the lead. Paul Calhoun cracked the top five by lap 5 and picked his way through the pack to get the lead just before halfway. Dale Caswell worked his way into the top three, but he and Hilts tangled in turn four, handing scond spot back to Webb. Calhoun held off Webb over the final laps to collect another win, while Jake Rabetoy moved past Jon Dumas in the closing laps to collect third. Caswell roared back through the field after the spin to take fifth spot.
The 15-lap Street Stock feature opened up with Ed Rodgers leading, but Dave Pope took the top spot on lap 3, with Dave Mannise moving into second one lap later while Dana Aikens slipped into third. Four laps later, after some great side by side racing, Mannise moved under Pope and took over the top spot. Pope repeatedly looked for a way by Mannise, but couldn't make the pass as Mannise brought home another win, followed by Pope and Aikens. Todd Raabe and Andy Wells came in for fourth and fifth.
Thundercar winners included Chuck Monica (4 Cyl. Domestic), Bob Martin (4 Cyl. Foreign), Verne Harris (6 Cyl.), Dale Snyder (8 Cyl.) and Rush Walts (Truck).
