FIVE TIME MOD CHAMPION VONDOHREN WINS NASCAR MODIFIED FEATURE AT GRANDVIEW WHILE RANDY STOUDT GETS THE LATE MODEL WIN

BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 16,2005.…. Five time NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified champion Craig VonDohren, Oley, PA, drove the WWW.LittleGambler.Com sponsored Bill Devine owned No.70D to victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Modified stock car feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. The win was the first of the season and his 214 career modified victory. Randy Stoudt,Pottstown, PA, wheeled the No.22 Late Model to an easy win, finishing a straightaway in front of second place Ron Kline, in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model stock car feature race.

VonDohren started in sixth spot and started his charge to the front early as Ryan Watt set the early pace in the Modified feature race. Watt, fielding a car this season with support from Chad Sinon Motorsports, was in front of the pack for 18 laps before he got into the pack of a slower mount causing him to slow his pace and give the lead to the hard charging VonDohren.

Once in front VonDohren was able to hold off a strong late race challenge from current track champion Jeff Strunk who had brought the Chad Sinon Motorsports/BPG Racing No. 88 from 15th starting spot. At the finish VonDohren was just about a car length in front of Strunk (Bethel) followed by Ryan Watt (Phoenixville), Tracy Readinger (Oley) and John Willman (Birdsboro).

“The car is bad. We can’t get it to work in the corners. We have a lot of work still to do with the car but we will take the win,” said VonDohren in victory lane as he and his team celebrated the win. “I am just disappointed that car owner Bill Devine was not here tonight to see us win.”

The win ties VonDohren with Rick Schaffer as the all time leading Modified feature winner at Grandview Speedway with 51 career victories.

Jeff Strunk continues to be the point leader in the chase for his fifth track Modified title.

In the 20-lap main event for Late Models sophomore racer Mike Kellner went to the front at the drop of the green with veteran Brian Shuey right on his rear. For five laps Kellner set the pace. A medical emergency brought out a red stopping the race and on the restart Brian Shuey took control of the race but only for two laps. Randy Stoudt, coming from 11th starting spot in the 24 car field, took the top spot and it was clear sailing for the balance of the feature race.

Ron Kline (Salfordville), last week’s feature winner, charged from 18th to challenge at the finish but fell short. Third spot went to Brian Shuey (Hamburg) followed by Steve Sennott (Gilbertsville) and Kyle Pensinger (Lyon Station).

Stoudt, a former track Late Model champion, is no longer a regular competitor at the Berks County oval and has been traveling to different tracks to gain experience in Late Model competition.

Ron Kline continues to set the pace in the latest Late Model point standings seeking his first track championship.

Qualifying heat races for the modifieds, setting the field for the feature, went to Tom Umberhauer, John Willman, Doug Manmiller, Tom Mayberry and John Tschudy. The consolation races were won by Ed Scott, Rick Schaffer and Donny Erb. The three lap Cheers Tavern Cash Dash went to Tom Umbenhauer.

Brian Shuey, Junior Grebe and Randy Stoudt won the qualifying heats for Late Models while Doug Walton was tops in the consolation event. Randy Stoudt made a clean sweep of the night when he won the three lap Jim Brown Cash Dash.
