‘Super’ Matt Sheppard Flies to $3,000 Victory from 20th starting position!

WEEDSPORT, NY (May 20, 2018) – More than 120 race cars opened the 2018 season at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday with Matt Sheppard, Kevin Ridley and Darryl Ruggles all earning spots on victory hill presented by WACK 1420AM.

Sheppard started the DIRTcar Big Block Modified main event from the 20th position and took the lead from Chris Hile on lap 45 of the 50-lap main event to record his 19th career win at The Port.

Jimmy Phelps led the majority of the event after taking the top sport from early leader Alan Johnson, but break issues slowed Phelps at race’s end, dropping the No. 98H to a third-place finish.

Johnson and Gary Tomkins completed the top five finishers with Erick Rudolph, Pat Ward, Billy Decker, Danny Varin and Tim Fuller in the top ten.

Ridley and Dave Marcuccilli started 2018 where they left 2017, as the top two drivers in Weedsport’s Sportsman ranks.

For the second year in a row, Ridley would drive away to the opening night victory in the No. 20X, besting Marcuccilli and Matt Guererri on the podium.

Darry Ruggles was the winner of the NY6A Micro Sprint A-Main.

A full recap of the night’s events will be posted later today.
