Jeff Hulseapple Takes Win At Accord Speedway

ACCORD,NY - September 25, 1999

14 charging chauffeurs, a 50-lap feature event with the addition of a full moon, gave the spectators at the Accord Speedway a racing malee to behold. On the first lap, coming into turn 2, Mike VanPelt spun in front of the field and collected five of his competitors. On the complete restart, Jimmy Johnson took the lead for 10 laps. Unfortunately, on the next restart, Johnson and Lem Atkins collected each other allowing Jeff Hulseapple the opportunity to take over. By this time, VanPelt had worked his way back to second with Jeremy Markle third. Jay Haviland and Markle tangled on lap 32 giving Hulseapple, VanPelt and Jim Winchell a shot at the lead. VanPelt spun coming out of turn 4 and limped to the infield. Hulseapple held off Winchell's very strong charges for the win, but when the checkered flag was thrown, Hulseapple was the leader, Winchell 2nd, Lem Atkins 3rd, Jeremy Markle 4th and Jay Haviland finished 5th. This was a non-points race, but the drivers ran it as if their championships depended upon it.

18 Strictly Stock competitors were in the field of contention for the 25-lap feature event. Scott Hornbeck had the lead but by midway he spun and was forced to the rear leaving Scott Kilmer and Buck Dunning to duke it out. With only two laps to go, Dunning spun leaving Kilmer out front with George Decker 2nd and Dunning worked his way back up the 3rd.

Street Stock action saw a lucky field of 13 cars. Harry Baldwin had the outside pole, and took the lead and never had to look over his shoulder to see if anyone was behind him. Having a large lead ahead of the field, Baldwin left the racing to Rich Dymond Gene Palmer and George Christiana. Unfortunately, Dymond was forced to the infield with 9 laps to go and had to watch Palmer finish 2nd, Christiana 3rd, Gene Temple 4th and new to the ¼ mile surface, Don Shepard was 5th.

Next week's grand finale will showcase the many times, rained-out Art Tyler Memorial 50-lap 358 DIRT Modified feature event. Brett Hearn will return and try to make it two in a row for this $1500 to win event. This Syracuse Qualifier will also be a points event for the campaigners. A regular show for the other competitors will also be on the agenda. Green flag racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
