Rudalavage Returns To Victory Lane At Afton

Afton, NY - Jeff Rudalavage of

Olyphant, PA. Picked up his second 358

DIRT Modified win of the season at

Afton Speedway last Friday night.

Dana Wagner, of Trout Creek, started=20

on the pole for the 30 lap event.

Rudalavage inherited the outside starting

position after Earlville's Mike Gillette

failed to make the call.

Rudalavage took the early lead at the

start, with Wagner falling into second,

Aaron Excell third and Billy Walters, Jr.

fourth. A lap three caution involving

points leader Tony Pepicelli, of

Duanesburg, tightened the pack back up.

Wagner took over the lead on the

restart. Harpursville=E2=80=99s Gary Smith

moved past Walters into the fourth spot

on lap five. Another caution period on

lap seven for Rich Scagliotta, Brad Jones

and Steve Eldred would tighten up the

pack again.

This time, Rudalavage got a good

jump and took the lead over from

Wagner, while Gary Smith challenegd

Aaron Excell for the third spot. Smith

was able to get by Excell for third on a

lap ten restart. Pepicelli had moved all

the way back up to sixth, but a lap eleven

tangle involving three cars would end his

hopes for a top five finish.

The top four remained the same, as

Mike Clapperton, driving the back-up

jeremy Smith car after his machine was

sidelined with mechanical trouble after

hot laps, ran in fifth.

Smith put the pressure on Wagner for=20

second until losing the handle on his

machine on lap 19, bringing out what

would be the final caution of the race.

Rudalavage went on for the win,

followed by Wagner, Excell, Clapperton

and Jeremy Smith.

The 20 lap Sportsman feature started=20

with Unadilla=E2=80=99s Mike Walters and

Treadwell=E2=80=99s Billy Harris on the front row.

Harris grabbed the lead at the start,

with Walters falling in for second, and

points leader Don Hart, jr. moving into

third from his fourth place starting spot.

Hart took over the second spot from

Walters the next lap.

Guilford=E2=80=99s Arnie Slade picked his=

way through the field, taking over fourth

place from Steve Davis on lap four, and

third place from Walters on lap five.

Steve Anderson took over the fourth spot

from Walters on lap six.

Hart put the pressure on, but Harris=20

had his 96 machine hooked up as he held

on to the lead. Jim Crawn, of

LeRaysville went from fifth to third on

lap thirteen, getting by Slade and

Anderson. For the third week in a row

after leading the first half of the race,

Harris would suffer mechanical

problems, shuffling him back into the

field.

Hart took over the lead, as Slade and

Crawn see-sawed back and fourth for

second. At the line it was Hart with the

win, Slade in for second, Crawn third,

Anderson fourth and Rockdale=E2=80=99s Tim

French in fifth.

Harpursville=E2=80=99s James Cornell took the

early lead in the 20 lap Pro Stock feature

with Guilford=E2=80=99s Todd Hurlburt settling

into second and pole sitter Fred Christ

falling back to third.

Denny Smith, of Trout Creek, took

over the second spot from Hurlburt on

lap two, and set his sights on the top spot.

A caution for Chales Holcomb on lap

five would be the break that Smith

needed.

Smith took the lead on the restart, as

Winnie Winchester, Bret Belden and P.J.

Goodwin shuffled Hurlburt back to sixth.

A tangle on lap eight with Cornell and

Winchester ended their chances for a top

five finish.

Smith held on for his second win of

the season, followed by Belden,

Goodwin, Harold Humphrey, and Gary

Roberts, who took over the fifth spot

from Jason Schlafer on the final lap.

Ralph Cuozzo, Jr. of Unadilla took

the lead from his fourth starting spot at

the start of the 15 lap Four Cylinder

Stock event.

Roxbury=E2=80=99s Ron Cummings held on to=

second, until Skip Pickwick and Jamie

Banta got by to take over second and

third. A multi-car caution on lap three

stacked the pack back up.

Banta took over the second spot from=20

Pickwick on the restart, as Cuozzo held

the lead. Last week=E2=80=99s feature winner

Dennis Vroman made his way through

the field from his ninth starting spot.

Banta took over the lead on lap seven,

as Vroman moved into the top five,

getting by Ralph Jennings. Vroman was

the man on the move, gaining one spot

every lap. Vroman took over second

from Cuozzo, jr. on lap twelve, and a

caution on lap thirteen involing the leader

Banta would give him the top spot.

Vroman went on for his second win

of the season, with Cuozzo, Jennings,

Scott Johnson and Skip Pickwick

completing the top five.

Bob Stilson of Unadilla and Todd

Curtin of Walton made up the front row

for the 15 lap Pure Stock feature.

Points leader Neil Palladino, of

Guilford, took the early lead from his

fourth starting spot, with Stilson falling

in for second and Bainbridge=E2=80=99s Rob

Loucks in third.

Windsor=E2=80=99s Denny Decker moved in= to

second on lap two, as James Cornell, jr.

took over third from Stilson on lap three.

Palladino and Decker battled for the

top spot, and as the two entered turn three

on the fifth lap, they hooked bumpers.

Palladino was able to continue on and

hold the lead, but Decker would end his

night in the pits.

Palladino went on for the win,

followed by Cornell, Dennis Valentine,

Stilson and Loucks.

Hal Merrick, of Charleton,

Massachusettes picked up his second win

of the season in the Dwarf Cars.

Merrick started on the outside pole

for the twelve lap event, and led from

start to finish. Windsor=E2=80=99s Gordie Isham

finished second with Alan Barker, Louie

Gordinier and Chic Chandler completing

the top five.

Next Friday night is Kevin=E2=80=99s Great=20

American night at the Action Attraction.

The Four Cylinder Modifieds wil be on

hand in addition to the regular show.

Also, there will be a fireworks show to

top off the night. As always, gates open

at 5:00pm, racing at 7:30pm.
