LAURENT LADOUCEUR SCORES SECOND MODIFIED WIN AT EDELWEISS

Laurent Ladouceur claimed his second feature win in the mods by taking the second leg of the Lafrance Performance Friday night before another large crowd of fans at the Val des Monts oval.

Leaving from post thirteen on the starting grid the Alexandria driver didn’t waste anytime at the drop of the green flag to find himself on top of the 22 car field at the halfway point. Smiths Falls’ Dave Heaslip was the pacesetter in the early stage of the 30 lap affair but gave way to a very aggressive Ladouceur who only had one thing in mind and that was to finish in front of everybody. Last week’s winning driver Mark Hitchcock was runner up while Laurent’s son Lee Ladouceur ended third. Heaslip and late charging Brian McDonald rounded out the fast five.

Pierre Dagenais, sophomore Eric Gauvreau and Dan Jalbert were the qualifying heat winners. Speaking of Dan Jalbert, his wife Tammy the only female driver in the modifieds sure gave the boys their money’s worth when she took the early lead in the heat and held on for seven laps only to lose to husband Dan in a nail biting finish of the qualifier.

Stephane Lebrun claimed his third feature and his second in as many outings in the Pro Stock category. The Gatineau driver took the green flag despite being injured in a freak mishap at Cornwall Motor Speedway last Sunday night but nevertheless Lebrun blew past his competitors for a comfortable win and by doing so, improved his lead on top of the drivers standing. Mont-Laurier’s Alain Coursol had to settle for second best while Michel Dupuis of Aylmer took home third money for his efforts. Matthieu Beaudoin and Todd Fletcher rounded out the top five. Beaudoin and Cornwall’s Ron Morin were the qualifying heat winners.

Serge Lagace came from behind in the dying moments of the feature to claim the checkered flag in the Semi Pros. Lagace took the measure of Dominic Gauvreau in the runner up spot and of Richard Brady in third spot. Charles Galipeau and John Bernard rounded out the fast five while John Holmes and Michel Robert won the qualifiers.

The four Cylinders was again all Jack St-Arnaud who registered his third win in a row by edging out Martin Jacques in second place and Brian Rochon completing the winning trio. Wakefield’s Ryan Foley and Pat Legault of Gatineau rounded out the top five. Legault and St-Arnaud were also qualifying heat winners.

Next program of exciting races at Edelweiss Speedway next Friday night June 18 where besides a full and regular program a tire race for children and a special eight cylinder Enduro featuring five laps in reverse is on the slate. The green flag drops at 7:45.
