MARK HITCHCOCK FROM START TO FINISH IN THE MODS AT EDELWEISS
Newcomer Mark Hitchcock registered his first feature win in the modifieds Friday night before another large crowd of faithful at Edelweiss Speedway.
Leaving from post six on the starting line the Kingston driver grabbed the early lead at the drop of the green flag and never relinquished it surviving challenge after challenge from top contenders Dave Heaslip who ended second and from late charging Brian McDonald holding on for third best in a fast paced 30 lapper. Eric Gauvreau and Lee Ladouceur rounded out the top five. Brian McDonald looking for his third win in four outings here at Edelweiss was one of the qualifying heat winners while Gauvreau and veteran Pierre Dagenais were the other winners.
Edelweiss Speedway played host to the Mr Radiator 50 lapper for late models in the Pro Stock Friday night and Stephane Lebrun blistered his way to his second feature win of the season. The Gatineau driver was the pacesetter from start to finish and set a torrid pace throughout the fifty laps with favourite Joey Ladouceur in tow.
’’I had to be quick on the takeoff and aggressive all the way and it paid me, I will need all the chance possible the rest of the way in this series and I intend to have fun.’’ said a happy Lebrun in the winners circle. His victory bounced him ahead of Michel Dupuis for the lead in the overall standing. Mitch Jock completed the podium while Cornwall Speedway promoter Ron Morin and Aylmer’s Michel Dupuis rounded out the fast five. Lebrun, Ladouceur and Todd Raabe were winners in the preliminaries.
In the Semi Pros, last year champion Dominic Gauvreau broke the ice by claiming his first victory flag of the season. Michel Robert made an impressive drive through the field of twelve cars to finish in the runner up spot. Aggressive John Holmes of Cantley ended third while Bruno Richard and Serge Lagace rounded out the top five. Gauvreau and Robert each won their respective qualifying heats.
Jack St-Arnaud made it two in a row in the four cylinders by taking the measure of Gatineau’s Pat Legault in second place at the finish stripe and Nico Leblanc taking home third cheque for his effort. Dany Larose and Lady Erin Joyce of Wakefield rounded out the fast five. Legault and Donald Meunier previously won checkered flags in the qualifiers.
Next program of exciting races at Edelweiss Speedway Friday night June 11 where a full and regular program is slated featuring the second leg of the Lafrance Performance and a pit stop competition for modifieds plus a demolition derby. The green flag drops at 7:45.
