EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY 358 MODIFIED MAIN TO DAVE HEASLIP

Dave ‘’The Slip’’ Heaslip registered his fourth modified feature win of the season on a third night of racing in seven days at Edelweiss Speedway, Friday night before another large crowd of faithful fans.

The veteran driver who calls Smiths Falls his home took over the lead after leaving from post eight from sophomore Lee Ladouceur at lap 25 and cruised his way to the winners circle in the remaining five laps. Ladouceur who gave the fans their money’s worth was on the gas very early and took the lead at the drop of the green flag but couldn’t survive Heaslip’s late challenge to settle for second best over his dad, defending champion Laurent ‘’Laser’’ Ladouceur who completed the podium. Cornwall ’s Dan Jalbert was fourth and Gatineau ’s Pierre ‘’The Snake’’ Dagenais rounded out the fast five. Laurent and Lee Ladouceur were the qualifying heat winners.

Denis Gauvreau broke the ice in the Late Model Pro Stock category by taking his first checkered flag of the season. The Aylmer driver had to overcome the ninth post position at the start by taking the lead early and he never relinquished it, surviving late charges by Stephane Lebrun and Marc Therrien who were runner up and third respectively. Dave Bissonnette and Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter Ron Morin rounded out the top five. Therrien and Morin each won a leg of the qualifying heats.

In the eight cylinder category Michel Robert of Masham captured his fourth feature of the season by finishing on top of the fourteen car field. Gilbert Mongeon was runner up and defending champion Dominic Gauvreau completed the winning trio. Jonathan Holmes, fourth and Serge Lagace, fifth rounded out the fast five. Gauvreau and Robert won the qualifiers.

Gatineau ’s Carl Soucy increased his lead on top of the drivers standing by taking his fifth checkered flag of the season in the four cylinders. Soucy took over the lead in the dying moments of the twelve lap affair from Patrice Legault who ended second. Dany Larose took home third money for his efforts. Soucy and Wakefield ’s Erin Joyce each won a leg of the qualifying heats.

Action resumes this coming Friday night July 11 at Edelweiss Speedway, where besides the regular and full program, fans will surely appreciate the presentation of an Enduro feature for eight cylinders, carrying a trailer itched to each vehicle. The green flag drops at 7:45 sharp
