ALAN JOHNSON EDGES TIM McCREADIE IN CAUTION FREE DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY
BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson won his fourth Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified feature of the season in front of a capacity crowd last Friday on Ballistic Race Gear/Bassett Wheels Night. Johnson worked his way past Tim McCreadie on lap 27 and the defending track champion would lead the remainder of the distance in the 45-lap special. McCreadie closed in on Johnson in the late going in lapped traffic, but wasn’t able to make it by in the caution free event.
Frankie Caprara jumped out to the early lead at the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting position. Caprara set a fast pace from the start and after five circuits he was being chased in the top five by Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Tim McCreadie and Chuck Hebing. Caprara would lead the opening nine laps of the Ballistic Race Gear/Bassett Wheels main event.
Billy Decker took the lead away from Caprara on lap 10. Decker would only lead one circuit as Tim McCreadie took command of the field on lap 11. McCreadie wasted little time in moving up from the 10th starting position. At the halfway point of the 45-lap special Tim McCreadie continued to lead with Alan Johnson, Decker, Chuck Bower and Tim Fuller following in the top five.
It was on lap 27 when Johnson took the lead away from McCreadie. Johnson came from the 16th starting position to the lead without the aid of a caution period. Once in front Johnson attempted to open up his lead, but McCreadie came charging back in lapped traffic. McCreadie closed right in on Johnson, but the defending Brewerton Speedway Track Champion drove a flawless race to earn the $2,000 payday in the Elaine James Motorsports entry.
Tim McCreadie had to settle for second with Bower, Fuller and Decker completing the top five feature finishers. Scott Prentice, Steve Hulsizer, Craig Terrell, Bob McCreadie and Caprara crossed the finish line in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
Ron Root won his first 20-lap IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday in the rain-delayed event from June 20. Root passed Mike Chilson on the final circuit to claim the victory in the George Valenti owned car. Chilson had to settle for second with Bill Anderson Sr., Dale Caswell and Rich Townsend completing the top five feature finishers. Sean Lias dropped out of the event while leading on lap 13 and that gave the top spot to Chilson.
Dan Williams claimed the win in the rain-delayed Dwarf Car feature from June 20. Tim Burdick, Darren Forbes, Wayne Younglove and Lowell Zehr completed the top five feature finishers behind Williams. On lap six Williams took the lead away from Kim Nash and he would lead the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.
Lorrie Herbert was the most popular winner of the evening. The lady driver was the race winner in the 15-lap Four Cylinder Stock main event over Russ Wassner, Chuck Powelczyk, Doug Farnsworth and Darik Van Epps. Lorrie Herbert inherited the lead in the late going after husband Jeff pulled into the infield with mechanical problems. She then held off Wassner for the feature victory.
Bill Anderson Sr. claimed his first IMCA Modified feature race win of the season last Friday night in the nightcap event. Mike Chilson, Ken Rogers, Doug McKane and Dale Caswell followed Anderson across the finish line in the 20-lap event. On lap seven Anderson took the lead away from Rogers and the veteran driver would never give it back.
Troy VanAllen returned to the winners’ circle at the conclusion of the regularly scheduled Dwarf Car main event. Darren Forbes, Dan Williams, Wayne Younglove and Don Fenner followed VanAllen across the finish line. Kreig Heroth dropped out of the main event while leading on lap 14. That gave VanAllen the lead and the former track champion led the rest of the distance in the 20-lap affair.
The entire race program including six feature races plus a gigantic fireworks display was conducted in just over three hours.
Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in action plus ATV Four Wheeler races. Action will start at 7:30 p.m. on Alltel Night. For more information please call the track office at 315-668-6906 or the race line at 668-RACE.
