LEE LADOUCEUR IN VICTORY LANE AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY
Young Lee Ladouceur who’s in his second year of racing in the modifieds finally broke the ice by claiming his first checkered flag at Edelweiss Speedway Friday night.
The Alexandria driver’s first win also gave him the right to join his father Laurent, who had already qualified for the Victoria 200 set for next month at Fulton Speedway, by leading the local drivers standing. Lee Ladouceur took the lead in the fifty-lap feature with ten laps remaining and never relinquished it. Defending champion Pierre Dagenais who gave the winning driver a run for his money ended second while Laurent Ladouceur had to come back to settle for third best after being the pacesetter until he had to make a pit stop at lap 40 due to mechanical problems. North Bangor’s Greg Monica in fourth spot and veteran Dave ‘’The Slip’’ Heaslip who had a crow to pluck with Laurent Ladouceur in pit lane after the race, completed the fast five.
Laurent Ladouceur and Brian ‘’ Slim’’ MacDonald each had won a leg of the qualifying heats.
The Late Model Pro Stock category was all Eric Gauvreau who registered his ninth win of the season and by doing so, increased his lead in the drivers standing. The Cantley driver took an early lead in the twenty-lap feature and left Joey Ladouceur and Ron Morin behind him in second and third spot at the finish. Dave Bissonnette and Mitchell Jock rounded out the top five in the final where 14 participants took the green flag. Morin and Ladouceur previously won the two preliminaries.
Dominic ‘’Short Fuse’’ Gauvreau registered his fourteenth victory in fifteen starts this season and now holds an almost 300-point cushion in the eight cylinders drivers’ standing at the Val des Monts oval. The agressive Gatineau driver was again on top of the 12-car field when flagman Steve Salvas waived the checkered at the conclusion of the 15-lap journey. Denis Hamel and Mont-Laurier’s Bruno Boivin were second and third respectively.
It was a fourth trip to the winners circle this season for Jack St-Arnaud who took a serious option at the drivers championship in the four cylinders. The Gatineau driver edged out Danny Larose in a very tightly raced 12 lapper. Pierre Belisle took home third money for his effort. Patrick Legault and Carl Soucy were the qualification heat winners.
There will be another exciting card of racing at Edelweiss Speedway this coming Friday night where besides the regular program, a six-lap feature for female is pre-set. It will be the final week of activity in the mods and the table is set for the crowning of a new champion. The green flag drops at 7:45
