BICKNELL AND BISSONNETTE CLAIM VICTORY FLAGS AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY






Pete Bicknell of Ste-Catharines won the Super Dirt 100 in the mofifieds and Dave Bissonnette of Cornwall won the Mr Radiator 50 in the Late Model Pro Stock category Tuesday night at Edelweiss Speedway.



Leaving from post five, the number 42 car of Bicknell took the lead away from Danny Johnson (27) of Rochester at lap 78 en route for another major win and cash the lion share of the more than 25 000$ purse that was up for grabs. Pat Ward (42p) of Genoa N.Y. was third while Vince Quenneville Jr (78). of Middlebury Vermont completed the big four. Pierre Dagenais (124) of Gatineau who finished well off the pace at Drummondville a day earlier was the best local competitor with an eighth place finish. Father and son duo, Laurent and Lee Ladouceur (12) were involved in a two-car pileup in the backside at lap 20 which ended the local leading driver’s night of work very early.



Last Friday night’s feature winner Peter Mantha (1) of Hull also had to leave for pit lane, which ended his journey after 75 laps. Veteran Dave Heaslip (84) who was granted the pole position and very hot Brian MacDonald (151) also ended their night’s work early after experiencing mechanical problems. Laurent Ladouceur (23), Pat Ward and Frankie Caprara (fx1) of Watertown each had previously won a qualification heat. The 31-car field that took the green flag was a record high at Edelweiss Speedway.



Dave Bissonnette brought home first prize money after winning the Mr Radiator 50 for Late Model Pro Stock. The Cornwall driver led the 18-car field from start to finish to complete his second win in as many starts here at Edelweiss Speedway. Eric Gauvreau (22) who presently leads the drivers standing was second while Marc Therrien (17) of Alexandria took third honour.



Mont-Laurier’s Alain Coursol (66) and Alexandria’s Gilles Goddard (27) completed the fast five. Bissonnette, Therrien and Todd Fletcher (7) each had previously won a qualification heat.



There will be another card of exciting races here at Edelweiss Speedway this coming Friday night where besides the regular program a demolition derby will be featured. Come and see them crash for cash. The green flag drops at 7:45.





Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter Ron Morin claimed his first victory flag this season in the Late Model Pro Stock category Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway.



Morin at the wheel of what seemed to be a much improve car, took an early lead and set a torrid pace through the twenty-lap feature to score his first feature win this year over Stephane Lebrun of Gatineau who gave the winner a run for his money in a very tight finish at the wire. Cantley’s Eric Gauvreau was the third place finisher in the ten-car field. Michel Dupuis of Aylmer who previously won the qualification heat had to leave for pit lane at lap 17 and this move seemed to cost him a place on the podium.



Gauvreau, Lebrun, Morin, Alain Coursol and Dupuis, in this order, are presently leading the drivers standing in the Late Model Pro Stock category.



Pierre Dagenais and Brian MacDonald each won a leg of the twin-20 featured in the modifieds. Dagenais registered his second win of the season by finishing on top of leading driver Laurent Ladouceur who managed to take home second money for his effort and over Perry Francis of Hogansburg N.Y. Peter Mantha of Hull completed the big four.



Brian ‘’Slim’’ MacDonald edged out veteran Dave ‘’The Slip’’ Heaslip for his fourth feature win of the year at the Val des Monts oval in a fast paced twenty laps in the second leg of the twin feature. Peter Mantha completed the winning trio while Pierre Dagenais and Laurent Ladouceur who also won a qualifying heat rounded out the fast five. Heaslip was the winner of the second qualifying race.



The four cylinders also presented a double bill won by first timer Marcel Raymond who finally broke the ice by crossing the finish line on top of the 15-car field in the first leg. Jacky St-Arnaud was the second place finisher and Morin who completed the fast three also was the winning driver in the second leg of the double feature. St-Arnaud and Dany Larose were the winners in the qualifying heats.



Dominic Gauvreau took the checkered from flagman Steve Salvas for the eleventh time in twelve outings this season by taking the measure of Denis Hamel who took home second money and Glen McKenney of Pembroke who completed the fast three.



There will be another great card of exciting races this coming Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway where besides the regular and full program, a race for female drivers and a race for ¾ Sprints will be featured. The green flag drops at 7:45.
