BRETT HEARN COPS SUPER DIRT SERIES RACE AT FROGTOWN

Brett Hearn of Sussix, New Jersey found the outside part of the speedway to his liking at Frogtown last Wednesday night as he came home the winner in a thrilling Budweiser 100 sponsored by A&M Beverage of Malone.

The Turning Stone Casino 358 Modified Series made its annual stop at Frogtown International Speedway drawing a field of 40 358 Modifieds. In the time trials, Frankie Caprara of Watertown, New York had the fastest time and took top honors in the J.E. Pistons time trials. The luck of the draw for the feature though fell to Pete Bicknell as he drew the pole with Ben Tucker drawing the #2 position to start on the outside of the front row.

At the drop of the green Bicknell grabbed the early lead with local favorite Kyle Jacobs moving quickly into second followed by Danny Johnson, Ben Tucker and Dave Heaslip. Bicknell held the lead until lap #27 when he slid up the speedway surface leaving just enough room for Johnson to get underneath and take the lead. Brett Hearn had begun his charge to the front early in the race from his 10th starting position and had moved into third followed by Pat Ward and Vic Coffey, who started 14th in the field, and at this point seemed a lot quicker than the leaders. Johnson began to get into traffic only to have the caution come out in lap #44.

On the restart Johnson maintained his lead now followed closely by Brett Hearn who had passed Bicknell on the outside part of the race track to get second. A torrid battle on the race track followed between Johnson and Hearn for first and second that had the crowd standing and cheering. Behind them yet another great side by side battle between Pat Ward and Bicknell for third and fourth was taking place. The two groups began to get into traffic again. Both Pat Ward and Pete Bicknell were able to get by Hearn again and move into second and third as Hearn dropped off the pace a bit moving back to fourth.

In lap #92, Hearn could wait no more as he knew he was running out of time and had to make his move right away if he was to have any chance of catching Johnson. By lap #94 Hearn was able to get back by both Ward and Bicknell and began to make his run at Johnson on the top side of the race track. The two again staged a great side by side dual. Suddenly on lap #98 the caution came out. This set up the final run between Hearn and Johnson for the win.

On the restart the two were side by side again and at the drop of the checkered flag, Hearn finished just barely in front of "Dr. J" for the win. Danny Johnson had to settle for second with Pat Ward, Vic Coffey and Pete Bicknell rounding out the top five.

In the Pro Stock division, Dave Bissonnette came from his 7th starting spot to win the event. Joel Herne and Louie Jackson started on the front row with Jackson grabbing the early lead. Dave Bissonnette and Scott Kocher were on the move quickly and had moved up to second and third respectively. On Lap #7 Bissonnette was able to catch the speedy Jackson and move into the lead. Scott Kocher was able to also get by Jackson setting up a great nose to tail run to the checkered flag. On lap #14 the caution came out for Louie Jackson in the #18. Casey Swamp and Travis Back also headed to the pits.

On the restart Kocher was able to get is nose under the #10 of Bissonnette but as soon as Dave stepped on the gas coming out of the #2 turn, he once again pulled away from Kocher and continued on for the win. Scott Kocher finished second followed by newcomer P.J. Peters, Joel Herne and Gilles Godard.

In the Semi Pro Divison it was Greg Snyder coming home the winner after a short battle with both Scott Sharpe and Pete Backus. Backus got up for second with Scott Sharpe, Dick Planty and Tom Chubb rounding out the top five.

In the Bandit division, Kevin Fetterly, Jr. and Danielle Legault staged a great battle for the fans with Fetterly coming out on top. Danielle Legault finished second with Jeb Beeson, Alex Thompson and Roch Aubin rounding out the top five.

In the action packed Enduro Feature, Ernie Cree made a late race charge to win the event holding off a tough Chad Shantie who finished second. Owen White, Leon Delormier and Rock Niles rounded out the top five.

Our thanks goes out to the people at A&M Beverage for sponsoring another great evening of racing at Frogtown.
