CORNWALL-Billy Decker did just about every one could expect from a race car driver on one night. Decker took the lead with 32 laps remaining and went on to win the Blaze 101.9 Canadian International 100, part of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for Big Block Modifieds on Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Decker began the evening by setting fast time in qualifying posting a time of 13.637 around the fast quarter mile oval. However, it was Vic Coffey that would bring the field of 30 cars down to the green flag. Coffey ran well and would lead the first 68 laps fighting off a challenge now and then from Danny Johnson. Decker then began to quicken his pace using the high line around the speedway blasting by Johnson following a mid race restart and then running side by side with Coffey for a few laps before going into the lead for good. Coffey settled for second spot with his car that was running loose in the final quarter of the race. Gary Tomkins whizzed by Johnson on the final restart to finish third, followed by the Doctor and Quebec’s Steve Poirer who was the top Canadian finisher. Steve Paine, Tim Fuller , Alan Johnson, Brett Hearn and Pat Ward finished 6th through 10 respectively.

Decker praised the track and the near capacity crowd at the Eastern Ontario oval despite threatening weather all day long. "I’ve always liked coming here to this track, there’s always a great crowd and we run well here." Decker won this same event in 1999.

John Lazore won his first ever Pro Stock feature at Cornwall with a little flare for the dramatic. Lazore passed Clayton Benedict on the back straightaway on the final lap. Benedict was second in front of early leader Roch Aubin who still came away with the best finish of his rookie season. Greg Hale and Mitchell Jock rounded out the fast five.

A wild and wooly Duke Stock feature closed out the night. Dan Mitchell, who was about the only car not involved in some kind of mishap used the same high groove as Decker did to cruise to victory in the 20 lap affair. Danny Lapalme was second, in front of Kevin Duffy, Gaetan Amesse and Stephane Normandin.

The Speedway returns to action next Sunday night at 7pm with all four divisions in action plus an appearance by Benny The Bomb Kosky, who will blow up a car while he is still inside it.
