Hitchcock’s heartbreak gives LaFrance victory at Cornwall

Mark Hitchcock looked like he was headed towards his first feature win of the season on Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway. Hitchcock’s impending triumph turned quickly into heartbreak as he clipped a lap car with 9 laps to go damaging the left rear of his machine. Stephane La France then took full advantage whizzing by Dave Heaslip on the restart and claiming both his second win of the season and his second win of the weekend, after being triumphant at Brockville as well.

"On that last restart, I did alot of adjustments from inside car," said LeFrance in victory lane. "The adjustments made the car work well at the end.." Heaslip settled for second followed by Brian MacDonald, Laurent Ladouceur and Kayle Robidoux. The feature that took just over 12 minutes from start to finish featured alot of side by side battles within the top 5 throughout.

John Lazore picked up where he left off last week. Lazore won his heat and then drove inside Dave Marshall on lap 14 of the Pro Stock main event to win his second in a row. Marshall who showed good speed with a new powerplant settled for second after leading 13 laps. Joey Ladouceur was third with Stephane Labrun and Marc Therrien rounding out the top.

It didn’t take Stephane Normandin long to figure out Cornwall Motor Speedway. After finishing fifth in his first appearance at the quarter mile, he drove into victory lane in his second trip to the track. Normandin was hassled right until the final turn by Greg Ezard. Robbie Ezard was third in front of Kevin MacRae and Caleb Bradley.

Billy Woodward Jr. survived some early race mayhem and then cruised to an impressive win in the 12 lap Rookie stock event. Nico Leblanc charged from near the rear of the field to finish second followed by Scott Nurse, Stuart Mullin and Matthieu Aubin.

The Speedway returns to action next Sunday night at 7pm with all four divisions in action plus the always popular Demolition Derby at the regular admission price.
