CLAUDE BROUILLARD TAKES THE FIRST SPOT IN THE STANDINGS

GRANBY, Qué., August 3, 2002--- Claude Brouillard had one thing in mind, last Friday night at Autodrome Granby and he fully took advantage of two features in his category to take the first spot in the Carquest Auto Parts championship over American driver Donald Scarborough. With a second place finish and a win in the Mr. Modified feature for the third time in his career, he was able to take the lead while Scarborough had to settle for two of fourth place finishes. Pierre Raymond also did very well with two wins in the Sportsman division for the Castrol championship.

The rescheduled Modified feature from July 26, was the affair of Steve Poirier who registered his second win of the season. Poirier took the lead on lap 3, when Gino Clair caused a yellow flag due to a flat tire. Tenth at the start, Brouillard made his way through traffic and found himself second on the fifth restart of the race on lap 23. He was followed by Kayle Robidoux. Réal Lafrance who is the defending champion in the Modified division, took the fifth place.

Then, taking advantage of his draw of the pole for the Mr. Modified race, Brouillard led all the 30-lap feature to register his third success of the season. At the finish line, he was followed by Clément Therrien, Alain Boisvert and Scarborough.

Following those results, Brouillard is now on top of the Modified standings with 844 points, 13 more than Scarborough. As far as Lafrance is concerned, he managed to stay in third place but lost some ground on the two leaders.

In the Sportsman division, Pierre Raymond was the sole driver of the evening to visit the winner’s circle in two occasions. Nineth on the starting grid, Raymond finished ahead of Alain Mathieu and Daniel Messier in the first 25-lap feature while in the second his victims were Messier and François Becksted.

Alain Brochu and Stéphane Larivière were the winners in the Late Models division while Steve Bernier was disqualified for the third time this season after visiting the winner’s circle in the 4 Cylinders class.
