FULLER OPENS SEASON WITH WIN IN RAIN SHORTENED F.X. CAPRARA MAIN EVENT
BREWERTON, NY…Tim Fuller claimed the win in the rain shortened 36-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Fuller earned $2,000 for his victory in the F.X. Caprara Car Companies main event. The race was slowed on two occasions for a rain delay and the elements finally won out on lap 36. The Edwards, N.Y. driver won the season opener at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the B&F General Machine DIRT Modified.
DIRT Big Block Modified rookie driver Mike Adderly raced out to the early lead at the start of the F.X. Caprara main event from the outside pole starting position. Fuller took the top spot away from Adderly on lap two. After five circuits Fuller was being followed in the top five by Tim McCreadie, Chuck Bower, Alan Johnson and Adderly. McCreadie started to put the pressure on Fuller and the race for the top spot was on.
McCreadie was able to stay right with Fuller on several restarts, but he was never able to make the pass for the lead. A steady rain slowed the action shortly, but the track could be worked back in and the race resumed after all cars were allowed to pit for fuel after the lengthy caution period. When the race resumed Fuller kept the lead, but the event had to be stopped again on lap 36.
All cars were sent to the pits in an attempt to wait out the rain. This time the rain never stopped and the event was ruled complete on lap 36. Tim McCreadie, Johnson, Bower and Bob McCreadie followed Fuller in the top five in the official finish. Bob McCreadie drove a solid race coming from the 25th starting position to finish fifth. Frankie Caprara, Chuck Hebing, Billy Decker, Steve Hulsizer and Jimmy Phelps finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
Tim Burdick won the 20-lap Dwarf Car feature race in a photo finish over Scott Nash. Joe Garafolo, Wayne Younglove and Darren Forbes finished in positions third through fifth. Burdick led the entire 20-lap distance, but the race was still a very good one with the close finish.
Mike Chilson won the F.X. Caprara Car Companies sponsored IMCA Modified dash. The IMCA Modified feature and the Four Cylinder Stock feature were both rained out and will be made up this Friday night.
Action will resume this Friday at Brewerton Speedway on 2004 Motorsports Expo/Gater Racing News Night. The DIRT Big Block Modifieds, double features for the IMCA Modifieds and Four Cylinder Stocks, plus Dwarf Cars and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers all on the program. Action will start at 7:30 p.m. For more information please call 315-668-6906. Regular admission prices will be in effect.
