BOWER WINS FIRST OF THE SEASON IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY ON BURDICK DODGE / G&I HOMES NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…The 2003 season at Brewerton Speedway has not been a very good one to former Track Champion Chuck Bower. That was until last Friday night when Bower claimed the 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature victory in impressive fashion on Burdick Dodge / G&I Homes Night. The victory for the driver of the Currier Plastics entry was worth $1,700.
Tom Sears raced out to the early lead at the start of the Burdick Dodge / G&I Homes DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting position. After five laps Sears continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Bower, Jimmy Phelps, Craig Terrell and Billy Decker. After several laps of trying to do so Bower took the top spot away from Sears on the ninth circuit.
Once in front Bower had one goal in mind and that was to pull away and hide from the talent-rich field. At the halfway mark Bower was followed in the top five by Bob McCreadie, Decker, Sears and Alan Johnson. Craig Terrell, Tim McCreadie, Jimmy Phelps, Pat Ward and Frankie Caprara raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway stage.
The caution period Bower didn’t want to see happen came about on lap 26. It didn’t matter, however, as Bower clearly had the field covered. Alan Johnson worked up to a second place feature finish ahead of Tim McCreadie. Johnson owns a slim lead in the point standings going into the final point show on August 29. Decker and Bob McCreadie completed the top five feature finishers.
Sean Lias claimed another IMCA Modified feature win at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night and stayed in contention for the season title. Ron Root, Mike Chilson, Bob Bradt and Coleen Finch followed Lias across the finish line. Lias took the lead away from Ron Root on lap-17 and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap event. Bill Anderson Sr. is the current point leader going into the final point show on August 29.
Steve Miller won his second straight Dwarf Car feature race last Friday night. Mark Cooper, Bob Garafolo, Dan Williams and Tim Devendorf finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Miller took the lead away from Cooper on lap-10 and led the 27-car field the rest of the distance.
Doug Farnsworth won his third Four Cylinder Stock feature race of the season last Friday night. Jeff Herbert, Chuck Powelczyk, Ken Clark Sr. and Lorrie Herbert chased Farnsworth across the finish line.
Mitch Pietrowicz was the winner of the Four Cylinder Enduro race over Chad Guthrie, Bill Carista, Sam Curcie and Sam Carista.
Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars and Four Cylinder Stocks all in action. The DIRT Big Block Modifieds will compete in a 45-lap special. A Flame Throwing Car exhibition will also be presented. Race time is set for 7:30 p.m. For more information please call the track office at 315-668-6906 or go on line to www.brewertonspeedway.com.
