JOHNSON ENDS BREWERTON REGULAR SEASON WITH 45 LAP WIN ON AVON PRODUCTS / SYRACUSE.COM / SYRACUSE CRUNCH NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson closed out the 2003 Brewerton Speedway regular season in style last Friday by winning the 45-lap special on Avon Products of Oswego County / Syracuse.com / Syracuse Crunch Night. It was Johnson’s seventh win of the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the Elaine James Motorsports entry. The team secured their second straight Track Championship in the DIRT Big Block Modified division.

Steve Hulsizer jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Avon Products / Syracuse.com / Syracuse Crunch DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. After five circuits Hulsizer continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Chuck Bower, Jimmy Phelps, Bob McCreadie and Johnson. With 10 laps complete Hulsizer continued to lead the field in search of his second ever Brewerton Big Block Modified feature victory.

Hulsizer would lead the opening 12 circuits of the event. Chuck Bower took the top spot away from Hulsizer on lap 13. At the halfway mark of the 45-lap affair Bower continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Hulsizer, Johnson, Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller. A long stretch of green flag racing was to Bower’s liking as he looked for his second straight victory.

Johnson closed in on Bower with the help of lapped traffic and the battle for the lead was on. Bower was able to hold off the challenge of Johnson on every occasion when the final caution of the race came about on lap 39. That was the break that Johnson needed, as he was able to move around Bower on the restart. Johnson led the final six circuits for the $2,000 payday.

Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller moved up in the late going to finish second and third respectively. Bower had to settle for a fourth place finish with Billy Decker completing the top five feature finishers. Tim McCreadie earned the Fulton Speedway Victoria 200 All Star spot for the highest finishing Big Block Modified as Johnson is already a guaranteed starter. Frankie Caprara earned another Victoria 200 All Star spot as the highest finishing 358 Modified.

Ron Root won his second IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday night. Bill Anderson Jr., Mike Chilson, Mike Jeffries and Dale Caswell followed Root across the finish line. Root took the lead away from Jeffries on lap three and led the rest of the distance in the 20-lap event.

John Behron won the 35-lap Dwarf Car special last Friday night. It was Baron’s fifth win of the season. Kreig Heroth, Wayne Younglove, Bob Garafolo and Don Fenner completed the top five feature finishers. Behron took the top spot away from Barker on lap 12 and led the rest of the way.

Jeff Herbert returned to the winner’s circle at the conclusion of the Four Cylinder Stock 15-lap main event. Track Champion Chuck Powelczyk, Doug Farnsworth, Walt Van Epps and Russ Wassner followed Herbert across the finish line. Herbert passed Powelczyk on lap 10 and led the final five circuits for the victory.

Chad Guthrie claimed the victory in the final Four Cylinder Enduro of the season. Chad Crouse, Ron Hunt, Buddy Grant and Mitch Pietrowicz completed the top five feature finishers. Pietrowicz earned the season track title.

The 2003 season will conclude at Brewerton Speedway on Thursday, October 9 with a 100-lap Turning Stone Casino 358 Modified Super DIRT Series Race. The IMCA Modifieds will also be in competition. Action will start at 7:30 p.m. For more information please call the track office at 315-668-6906 or the race line at 668-RACE. On line information is available at www.brewertonspeedway.com.
