JOHNSON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE ON KINNEY DRUG STORES NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson won his second straight DIRT Big Block Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Johnson earned the win in the Kinney Drug Stores main event as he passed Bob McCreadie with just six laps to go. It was Johnson’s 27th career win at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. The hotly contested feature was a typical Brewerton Speedway affair with drivers coming from the rear on the multi-groove track.

Jason Barney raced out to the early lead in the Kinney Drug Stores DIRT Modified feature from the third starting position. Barney would lead the opening three laps. Scott Prentice took the top spot away from Barney on lap four. Prentice wasted no time in moving into the lead from the sixth starting position. After five laps Prentice was being followed in the top five by Barney, Pat Ward, Frankie Caprara and Billy Decker.

Prentice was looking to open up a lead, but several drivers were charging to the front. Veteran Bob McCreadie took the lead away from Prentice on the lap 15 restart. McCreadie started from the tenth starting spot and patiently worked up to the front. At the halfway point McCreadie was being followed in the top five by Chuck Bower, Prentice, Steve Hulsizer and Decker.

It appeared that McCreadie would go on to his first win of the season on Kinney Drug Stores Night, but Alan Johnson had another plan. On lap 29 Johnson worked his way around McCreadie to take over the lead. In the following laps McCreadie tried every trick in the books to pass Johnson, but he never made it by. The win was Johnson’s second straight in the Elaine James DIRT Modified.

Bower slipped by McCreadie on lap 32 to finish second. Bower was clearly the hard charger of the event in moving from the 21st starting position to finish second. Bob McCreadie had to settle for third. Tim McCreadie came back from several pit stops to finish fourth. Billy Decker completed the top five feature finishers in the very competitive field.

Rob Keller claimed the win in the 20-lap Dean Hubbs Memorial IMCA Modified feature. It was Keller’s second win of the season and 14th career win at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Keller was followed across the finish line in the top five by Billy Dunn, Richard Townsend, Tony Finch and Rich Riggs. Keller led the entire distance.

Joe Garafolo won his second straight Dwarf Car feature race last Friday night. Garafolo claimed his first ever win in the previous event. Mark Cooper recorded his best ever finish with a second. Eric Daddona, Dan Boyce and Shawn Hort completed the top five feature finishers. Garafolo took the lead away from Cooper on lap 10 and went on to the win in the 20-lap affair.

Mark Warner won his first Four Cylinder Stock feature of the season last Friday night. Jeff Herbert, Chuck Powelczyk, Lloyd Hinton and Lorie Herbert completed the top five feature finishers behind Warner. On lap nine a hard charging Warner took the lead away from Jeff Herbert and went on to the win in the 15-lap event.

Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro Racers all in competition. A special Paper Bag Race will also be contested. For more information please call the track office at (315) 668-6906. On line information is available at www.brewertonspeedway.com.
