JOHNSON WINS FIRST OF THE SEASON IN COCA-COLA DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE

BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson claimed his first Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified feature win of the season last Friday on Coca-Cola Night. Johnson, the current point leader in the competitive class, added to his point lead with the victory that was worth $1,700. Johnson took the lead away from Tom Sears on lap 19 and led the rest of the way in the 35-lap event in the Elaine James DIRT Modified.

Ryan Baye raced out to the early lead at the start of the Coca-Cola DIRT Modified feature from the pole starting position. Baye would lead the first two circuits. A strong running Pat Ward took the lead away from Baye on lap three. Tony Buffa lost power on the back straight to bring out the first caution of the event on lap 11. At that time Ward headed to the pits for the night after losing the brakes in his car.

Baye inherited the lead on lap 13. Sears took the lead away from Baye the next lap. At the halfway point Sears continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Johnson, Tim Fuller, Jason Barney and Scott Prentice. Racing in positions sixth through tenth at the halfway stage in order were Tim McCreadie, Baye, Billy Decker, Chuck Bower and Steve Hulsizer.

Johnson took the lead away from Sears on lap 19. In the closing stages of the race it soon became a two-driver battle for the win between Johnson and Fuller. Fuller was able to pull alongside of Johnson on several occasions, but he never made it past. Tim McCreadie closed in on the lead duo and moved into second on lap 34. At that time Scott Prentice and Pat Dabiere came together in the third turn. Both cars were heavily damaged.

During the caution period Fuller had to pit for a new right rear tire. A one-lap dash for cash was now on for the win. Johnson never slowed and went on to the victory. Decker moved from third to second on the final lap. McCreadie dropped to third at the finish with Bower and Sears completing the top five feature finishers in the fast paced event.

Sean Lias won his third IMCA Modified feature race last Friday night in a race slowed for numerous caution periods. Richard Townsend, Bill Anderson Jr., Bill Anderson Sr. and John Conway completed the top five feature finishers. Lias took the lead away from Joe Price on lap nine and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.

Joe Garafolo won his first ever Dwarf Car feature race last Friday night. Garafolo was followed across the finish line by Scott Nash, Tod Simons, Darren Forbes and Ken Gamlen. Garafolo took the lead away from Forbes on lap 18 and went on to his well-earned first career feature win.

Tim Koch became another first time feature winner last Friday night. Koch’s win came in the Four Cylinder Stock feature race. Koch won out over Lloyd Hinton, Chris Smith, Jeremy Bargabos and Russ Cusson. Koch took the lead away from Smith on lap 12 and led the rest of the way in the 15-lap event.

Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro Racers all in action. A Traffic Cone Race will also be contested. For more information please call (315) 668-6906. On line information is available at www.brewertonspeedway.com.
