BOWER CLAIMS DIRT MODIFIED FEATURE WIN ON PROMOTION MOTORPORTS NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…Defending Brewerton Speedway DIRT Modified Track Champion Chuck Bower returned to championship form last Friday night at Brewerton Speedway. Bower claimed the win in the 35 lap main event on Promotion Motorsports Night. It was the second win of the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon for the Lansing, N.Y. driver. Bower earned $1,700 for the victory.
Frankie Caprara raced out to the early lead at the start of the DIRT Modified main event from the outside pole starting position. Caprara led the opening four laps, before Ryan Baye worked his way into the top spot on lap five. Baye would only hold the lead for one circuit, as Tim Fuller took command of the race on lap six. After 10 laps Fuller was being followed in the top five by Bower, Tim McCreadie, Baye and Caprara.
Bower became the fourth different leader of the race on lap 11, as he was finally able to work his way by Fuller. At the halfway point of the main event Bower was being chased in the top five by Fuller, Tim McCreadie, Billy Decker and Pat Ward. Racing in positions sixth through tenth at this stage of the race in order included Alan Johnson, Chuck Hebing, Jimmy Phelps, Rich Swarthout and Tim Vincent.
Throughout the last half of the race Bower was able to hold off all challengers for the win in the Currier Plastics DIRT Modified. Tim McCreadie had another strong outing with a second place finish. Decker held off a late race charge by Johnson to finish third. Fuller completed the top five in the Promotion Motorsports DIRT Modified feature.
Mike Chilson won his first ever Brewerton Speedway IMCA Modified feature last Friday night. Chilson edged defending IMCA Modified Track Champion Bob Bradt for the win. Sean Lias, John Matyjasik and Mike Jeffries completed the top five feature finishers. Chilson led the entire 20 lap distance for the popular win.
Tony Buffa won his fourth straight Dwarf Car feature race at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Buffa was followed on this occasion by Ken Gamlen, Scott Nash, Bob Garafolo and Darren Forbes. Gamlen led the opening five laps before Buffa took command on lap six of the 20 lap affair.
Mark Warner won his third straight Four Cylinder Stock feature last Friday night. Warner was followed by Brian Evenden, Chris Smith, Roger West and Harvey Calkins Jr. Warner took the lead on lap 10 and led the rest of the way in the 15 lap main event. Ray Rainville was the early race leader.
BREWERTON NOTES---The AMB computerized scoring system was used for the first time ever at Brewerton during the DIRT Modified feature…Chris Bargabos returned to Four Cylinder Stock competition Friday night after her wild flip the week before. Bargabos was competing with a broken bone in her foot…Alissa Warner was the winner of the Kids Big Wheel race…Bob McCreadie returned to action last Friday after his hard crash the week before.
