ALAN JOHNSON WINS 2ND STRAIGHT ON TERRELL’S POTATO CHIPS NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson won his second straight DIRT Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Terrell’s Potato Chips Night. Johnson drove a masterful race as he quickly moved up from his 14th starting position to second on lap eight. The Phelps, N.Y. driver inherited the lead on lap 14 after Bob McCreadie broke while leading. Once in front, Johnson held off all challenges for the win, which was worth $1,700.

Bob McCreadie raced out to the early lead at the start of the 35 lap Terrell’s Potato Chips DIRT Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. After five circuits McCreadie continued to lead with Jimmy Phelps, Frankie Caprara, Johnson and Scott Prentice following in the top five. Johnson continued his charge to the front and on lap eight he was up to second.

For several laps Bob McCreadie and Johnson raced side by side for the lead. The Brewerton fans were treated to watching both multi-time Mr. DIRT Champions in a classic battle. But, that all changed on lap 13 when something in the front end of the McCreadie car broke heading down the back stretch. Tim Fuller and Billy Decker both had no where to go in what turned out to be a three car crash. McCreadie was later transported to a Syracuse hospital for shoulder and rib x-rays.

Johnson inherited the lead after the crash and it was a lead he would never give up. It was Johnson’s second straight Brewerton win in the Pillsbury DIRT Modified. Prentice drove a solid race and finished second. Tim McCreadie made a late race charge, but had to settle for third. Completing the top ten feature finishers in order were Pat Ward, Jimmy Phelps, Chuck Hebing, Steve Hulsizer, Jason Barney, Caprara and Ryan Baye.

Bob Bradt won his second straight IMCA Modified feature last Friday night over Sean Lias, John Hill, John Matyjasik and Bill Anderson Jr. Mike Chilson led the opening four circuits of the feature before Bradt took over on lap five. For the rest of the distance, Bradt went unchallenged for the victory.

Mark Warner also claimed his second straight Brewerton Speedway feature win in the Four Cylinder Stock class. Warner won out over Harvey Calkins Jr., Dave Myrto, Roger West Sr. and Joe Briere. Rainville led the opening six laps of the feature before Warner took over on lap seven. Warner held on to lead the rest of the way.

Tony Buffa won his third straight Dwarf Car feature last Friday night. Buffa was followed on this occasion by Barry Virts, Darren Forbes, Shawn Hort and Bob Garafolo. Buffa took the lead on lap five and led the rest of the way. Dan Boyce and Forbes both were early race winners.
