BOB McCREADIE RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE AT BREWERTON

BREWERTON, NY.....'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie returned to victory lane with an outstanding performance in Friday night's Rural Bolt/Casey's Truck Salvage World/B104.7 DIRT Modified feature event at Brewerton Speedway. Two first ever winners made to victory lane as Carmen Vona took the checkered flag in the IMCA Modifieds and Ken Gamlen powered to victory lane in the Dwarf cars, while Jim Lalone took his second of the year in the 4 Cylinders.

Scott Prentice jumped into the lead at the start of the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature event with Chuck Bower holding down the second spot. Dale Planck quickly moved up into the third position while Bower battled Prentice for the lead, taking the top spot on lap 9. Planck moved into second two laps later and on lap 11 took his turn at the point. While the battle up front raged, Bob and Tim McCreadie were moving up through the field with Billy Decker and Danny Johnson not too far behind.

Bower began to fade as Tim and Bob McCreadie battled each other for the second position. 'Barefoot' began to apply heavy pressure to Planck and made the move for the lead on lap 22 as the trio diced three wide. Danny Johnson closed in on Planck and moved into the third spot on lap 29. 'Barefoot' opened up the margin on his son, who was fending off challenges from Danny Johnson and Billy Decker, and carried his momentum to the checkered flag. Tim McCreadie held down the second spot, followed by Johnson, Decker, and Planck. Alan Johnson received the $100 bonus from Magee Trailer Sales for being the highest 358 Modified finisher in the field. DIRT Modified heats were won by Prentice, Jimmy Phelps, and Tim Fuller.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature began with Tony Finch leading the first two circuits until Carmen Vona, glued to the inside lane, took the lead. Don Alvord was one of the few competitors who tried running the outside lane in the feature, and he spent the entire distance fighting it out with Tim Murphy and Cory Fachini for the second spot.

Vona drove a smooth race, handling traffic with ease, as he handily recorded his first ever win at Brewerton. Fachini held off a determined Murphy for the second spot, with Dick Weiland recovering from an early race tangle to charge back to fourth. Last week's feature winner Sean Lias made a move on the last lap to steal the fifth spot from Don Alvord. IMCA Modified heats were won by Vona, Ron O'Neil, and Dane Keller.

The 20-lap Dwarf feature began with Barry Virts leading the first three laps until Troy Van Allen made his way up to challenge for the lead with teammate Ken Gamlen. Gamlen took the point as Virts and Van Allen touched lightly in turn four, which sent Virts spinning. Van Allen took the lead from Gamlen two laps later and started to pull away as Tony Buffa moved up to challenge Gamlen for second. While Van Allen was stretching his advantage and Buffa diced with Gamlen, Darren Forbes hooked up in a four-way battle for position with Eric Crawford, Scott Nash, and Bob Manger.

Lap 13 proved to be unlucky for Van Allen, who had problems that sent him to the pits during his heat race. Van Allen slowed on this lap, and ducked his car to the infield, handing the lead to his teammate Gamlen. It would not be easy for Gamlen, however, as Buffa drew even with him several times in a thrilling race for the lead that lasted right to the checkered flag. For Gamlen it was his first win in any type of racecar at Brewerton. Buffa was a very close second, with Crawford getting the best of his battle for the third spot. Forbes and Nash rounded out the top five. Dwarf car heats were won by Nash, Mark Weigelt, and Kevin Battelle.

The 15-lap 4 Cylinder feature was a wild race from start to finish, with no less that seven cars battling for the lead at various points of the event. Doug Battles led lap one, surrendered the lead to John West on lap two, then returned to the point on lap 3, only to lose the lead to Mark Warner one lap later. Warner's time on top lasted just two laps as Jim Lalone put his speedy racer up front and spent the rest of the race dicing in and out of traffic with Warner. Jim Olin streaked through the pack with Harvey Calkins Jr. as they tried to catch the leaders in the late going.

At the finish, Lalone had his second win of the year, followed by Warner and Olin. Battles held on to fourth with Calkins right behind in fifth. 4 Cylinder heats were won by Lalone, John West, and Dave Myrto.

In Women on Wheels races held at the end of the night, Kim Younglove took the Dwarf car win over Stacey Gamlen, Krissy Finch bested the IMCA Modified field, and Donette Palmer drove Mark Warner's car to victory in the 4 Cylinders.

Next Friday night will be a regular show of DIRT Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf cars, and 4 Cylinders with the added attraction of One on One Spectator Races. Gates will open at 5:30pm and racing starts at 7:30pm.
