TIM TANNER, JR. GRABS FIRST EVER SMALL-BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT AST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT - SNAPS BRIGHTBILL'S STREAK AT FIVE

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Tim Tanner, Jr. will long remember the East Windsor Speedway events of the final Friday night of July as he raced to his first checker flag at the half-mile clay oval. The Ivyland, Pa.'s racer's initial victory was even more important as it snapped a five race win streak for defending champ Kenny Brightbill. It also kept Brightbill from winning every event in July.

Fritz Epright of Whitehouse Station was the class of the field for the first 12 laps as he paced the field before spinning from the lead. A hard charging Tanner was there to take command at that point and raced on to the win with Craig Von Dohren of Barto, Pa. settling for second. Mike Johnston of Franklin Park, Lawrenceville's Wade Hendrickson and Neshanic Station's Jimmy Horton completed the top five. Brightbill's night ended on lap 14 of the 25-lapper with a badly smoking motor.

The 15-lapper for the Street Stocks came down to a great battle at the finish with defending champ Dave Brymer of Titusville winning by just feet over Larry Bubeck of New Hope, Pa. Wayne Hansen of Somerset was third, with Al Cheney of Cranbury and Flemington's Joe Garey wrapping up the first five.

Korey Keimig of Manville tasted his first ever victory in the 15-lap Sportsman main event. Keimig led early, gave up the lead to Rich Scagliotta of Bound Brook and then took it back with five to go. Ringoes' Ryan Godown, Hightstown's Rich Cass, Brian Godown of Ringoes and Richie Pratt of Sewell were second through fifth.

This Friday night (August 6) the Small-Block Modifieds battle in a 25-lap main event, while Sportsman and Street Stock racers compete in 15-lappers. Practice starts at 7:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30. Then on August 13, the Modifieds will headline in the fifth annual Len Sammons, Jr. Memorial 50-lap race. Fans will be in the spotlight during the annual "Banner Night" festivities on Friday night, August 27.

The 1999 schedule shows that the regular Friday night series will continue weekly through early-October. However, the Tuesday night, August 24, has been canceled. Details are available at the speedway hotlines at 732-521-0915 or 609-448-8510 or the website at www.ewspeedway.com.
