ALAN JOHNSON, RON O'NEIL, TROY VAN ALLEN WIN AT BREWERTON

JIM LALONE WINS FIRST IN FOUR CYLINDERS

BREWERTON-It was a night for hot dogs at the Brewerton Speedway on Friday as it was appropriately Hofmann Hot Haus Night at the D Shaped Dirt Demon. Alan Johnson captured his second DIRT modified feature event at the track while Troy Van Allen chalked up his sixth dwarf victory while IMCA mod competitor Ron O'Neil and four cylinder driver Jim LaLone won his first ever.

Alan Johnson won out in a race long battle with brother Danny as the duo diced wheel to wheel around the three-eighth's of a mile track. The 35 lap main event started out with pole sitter Tim McCreadie raced out to the early advantage. Meanwhile, Jim Phelps and Alan Johnson were working their way toward the front. On the tenth lap Alan Johnson took advantage of a restart as he went to the outside while Jim Phelps roared to the outside and headed toward the front. With 15 laps into the event it was a battle of the Johnson's as the pair pulled away. Jim Gabriel Jr., Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Billy Gill, and Tim McCreadie were all running toward the front. Coming out of nowhere was A.J. Romano in a brand new car.

Multiple yellows kept the field tightly bunched throughout the main event. The top five remained constant with Alan and Danny Johnson one and two while Jim Phelps was third followed by Decker and Gabriel with just 10 laps to go. Danny kept working the high road in attempts to pass his brother while Alan was content to stay on the low side. With five laps to go the stage was set for a shootout as Dale Plank spun between one and two. On the restart Alan continued to hold the field at bay. However, A.J. Romano battled wheel to wheel with the likes of Decker and Phelps to pick up a few critical spots toward the end.

With one lap to go a rock slammed into Alan's radiator and overheating was affecting the leader. However, at the checker it was Alan Johnson winning over Danny Johnson while A.J. Romano stormed on for third followed by Jim Phelps and small block competitor Steve Hulsizer.

It was excitement lap after lap in the IMCA 20 lapper. Ron O'Neil passed teenager Tim Murphy with just four laps to go to hand on for the win over Cory Fachini, Sean Lias and Murphy. The quartet raced side by side, bumper to bumper, in the waning laps. Don Alvord was the early leader and ran a heated battle with Jim Evans. Alvord broke on the seventh lap and Evans inherited the point. However, Evans spun and it was Tim Murphy taking over. Murphy put on a tremendous show to hold off the veterans. At the checker it was Ron O'Neil winning his first of the year and following him home were Cory Fachini (who came back from an early race crash), Sean Lias, Tim Murphy and Dick Wieland.

Troy Van Allen continued to display his winning ability as he captured the lead on the tenth lap and coasted to his sixth win of the year. In the early going it was Barry Virts with the lead, but on lap two Tom Juhl took over at the front. By the seventh lap Van Allen had worked his way to second and the rest was history as he raced past the leader on the tenth circuit. A late race caution put Dan Boyce on Van Allen's bumper, but the eventual winner simply had too much. Second place was a heated battle between Boyce, Ken Gamlin, Juhl, and several others. At the checker it was Troy Van Allen, Dan Boyce, Ken Gamlin, Tom Juhl and Eric Crawford.

In the four cylinder main event Jim Lalone entered the night 27th in points and captured his first ever victory as he fought off an early race battle with Jim Clark. Roger Olschewske ran one of the best races in his career, but lost a wheel while running third late in the race. LaLone overcame lapped traffic to win handily. Bob Whipple, Roger West, Doug Battles and John West completed the top five.

Pit Stops-Bob McCreadie was back, but didn't start the feature...Heats went to Danny Johnson, Tim McCreadie, and Jim Phelps in the mods, Ron O'Neil, Cory Fachini and Bob Bradt in the IMCA class, Dan Boyce, Tom Juhl and D.J. Forbes in the dwarfs and Brian Evendon, Doug Battles and Harvey Calkins Jr. in the four cylinders...High point man Calkins was involved in an early main accident...Dwarf high point man Tony Buffa broke in the main...Roger Cardot won the monster truck competition.
