McCREADIE SCORES WIN IN ANOTHER BREWERTON CLASSIC

BREWERTON, NY......'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie had to work very hard in coming from last to first to win Friday night's DIRT Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway. In other action, the IMCA Modified Dean Hubbs Memorial went to Rob Keller, who scored his second win of the season, while Troy Van Allen and Harvey Calkins were repeat winners in the Dwarf cars and 4 Cylinders respectively.

At the start of the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature, Bob McCreadie was at the rear of the field after electing to switch to his new Troyer four link car. Scott Prentice jumped out to the early lead with Pat Ward holding on to the second spot. Billy Decker and Jim Phelps made strong moves early to crack the top ten. The first caution came out when Danny Johnson tagged the frontstretch wall, doing damage to the right front corner of his Sweeteners Plus machine. Danny made a pit stop and returned without losing a lap, but was not a factor in the feature event.

As the race neared halfway, Decker snuck past a fading Ward and moved under Prentice to take the lead. Alan Johnson also moved up and began to challenge Decker for the top spot while Bob McCreadie was moving into the top ten. As Ward continued to fade, Tim Fuller hooked up on the outside lane and drove into the lead. McCreadie soon moved past Phelps to get into the top five, then closed in on the leaders.

A yellow with five laps to go bunched the field for a shootout. McCreadie went low and ran side by side with Fuller for three laps, finally getting the lead coming off turn four on lap 33. McCreadie held off challenges from Fuller to record the win, while Decker bested Johnson for third and Phelps locked up the fifth spot. DIRT Modified heats were won by Ward, Prentice, and Phelps.

The 25-lap IMCA Modified Dean Hubbs Memorial began with Tony Finch in the early lead. Rob Keller made some fast moves in the opening laps and caught the leader, making his pass on lap 3. Behind him, current point leader Sean Lias locked up in a battle with Craig Simmons, while runnerup in points Bob Bradt was charging from the rear after an early spin.

As Keller held on to a comfortable margin up front, Ron O'Neil, Kevin Buff, and Cory Fachini joined Lias and Simmons in a battle for position. Bradt came into this pack in the final ten laps and made some brilliant passes to get into the runnerup spot, but ran out of laps in trying to catch the speedy Keller machine. At the checkers, Keller took a commanding win, followed by Bradt, O'Neil, Buff, and Fachini. IMCA Modified heats were won by Keller, Pat Hobbs, and Bill Anderson Sr.

The 20-lap Dwarf car feature began with Shawn Hort at the point. As Hort held the lead, Troy Van Allen, Tony Buffa, and Kevin Battelle were coming up through the pack. The race for the lead meanwhile was heating up as Barry Virts took a turn at the top spot, only to lose it to Eric Crawford. Van Allen broke free of his battles for position and used the inside lane to charge into the lead on lap 7.

Crawford, Batttelle, and Buffa spent the rest of the feature trying to keep pace with Van Allen while they continued to fight for spots. Late in the race, Ken Gamlen also joined in the fight. At the finish, Van Allen used lapped traffic to stave off a last lap challenge from Battelle for the win. Buffa, Gamlen, and Crawford rounded out the top five. Dwarf car heats were won by Van Allen, Dan Boyce, and Tom Juhl.

The 4 Cylinder feature was a great battle down to the finish. Harvey Calkins slipped into the lead on lap 3 after moving up from mid pack, but John Clark moved into the second spot and the duo spent the latter half of the feature running side by side for the lead. Calkins was able to fend off the repeated challenges of Clark to take the win. Bob Whipple caught Clark in heavy traffic, and made a pass for second on the final corner. Clark, Roger West, and Ricky Breed (subbing for Lloyd Hinton) rounded out the top five. 4 Cylinder heats were won by Clark, Jim Olin, and Roger Olchewske.

Coming up Friday night, June 5th, Roger Burdick Dodge presents the first Family Autograph Night of the year. Gates will open at 5:30pm with racing starting at 7:30pm.
