Mike Ricci Takes 358's At Accord Speedway

ACCORD,NY - May 28, 1999

Although only making his second appearance in five events, Mike Ricci, of Kingston, NY, took the checkered flag in the 358 Modified feature event. Tom Hindley had the lead, but when the halfway flag came out, Ricci took over. Many cautions gave the fans a great deal of racing as the fight for third place went on between Joe Winnie, Rich Ricci, Jr. and Rick Mill. Barry Davis' #9D had to finish the race on the infield after breaking during one of the many tangles of the night. Winne maintains his point lead over Davis and Ricci, Jr. Hindley finished 2nd ahead of Winne's 3rd place, Rich Jr. was 4th and Mill rounded out the top five.

Jay Haviland of Dover Plains, NY wanted the elusive checker flag and was able to get it with only 5 laps to go in the Sportsman Division feature. Jim Winchell had the lead, but going high in turn 3 and 4 lost it to Haviland and Jeff Hulseapple who managed to slip by. Hulseapple was 2nd, Winchell 3rd, Jimmy Johnson finished 4th with Lem Atkins taking 5th.

Rich Dymond's #12 sparkled like a gem in victory lane after the Street Stock event. After being dubbed "hard luck" winner last year, Dymond has certainly hooked up with a perfect setup to finish first across the line ahead of Stanley Temple, Jr. who was 2nd, George Christiana, 3rd, Butch Winne 4th and Steve Smalley settled for 5th. Dymond is now second in points in this division. Last year's champion, Harry Baldwin, was forced out with a flat early in the race losing valuable points.

The Strictly Stock division was won by Scott Kilmer on his second visit to Accord, Ron Irvin was 2nd and Charlie Rose, Jr. 3rd.

Friday, June 4th marks the second 50-lap feature event for the 358's. Elliott's Ambulance Service of Middletown, NY will host the night's show. Brett Hearn will join the Friday night regulars trying to take the checker along with $1500 to win.

Green flag racing begins at 7:30 at the only 1/4 mile, DIRT oval in the area on Friday night.
