McCREADIE WINS SECOND OF YEAR IN BREWERTON THRILLER

BREWERTON, NY.....In a thrilling 35-lap DIRT Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway, Bob McCreadie held off charges from Danny Johnson, Billy Decker, and Tim Fuller to record his second win of the season and become the first repeat winner of the year at the "D-Shaped DIRT Demon". Sean Lias visited victory lane for the fourth time in the IMCA Modifieds, while Troy Van Allen netted his second Dwarf car win and Lloyd Hinton made it win number three in the 4 Cylinders on Strathmore Paints night.

Vic Coffey took the lead at the start of the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature event and spent the first few laps in a side by side battle with Jim Gabriel Jr. while Bob McCreadie and Danny Johnson started to move up in the pack. Tim Fuller moved past Bill Gill and Chuck Hebing to join the battle for the lead, taking the top spot on lap 9. Johnson and McCreadie moved into second and third as Gabriel began to fade.

Billy Decker had also moved into the top five by the halfway point and fought with Gill and Hebing for position while the trio of Johnson, Decker, and McCreadie had a torrid three way battle for the lead. Johnson grabbed the advantage on lap 19, with McCreadie moving into the second spot. As Johnson and McCreadie battled, swapping lanes on the track, Decker moved into third after a good battle with Fuller. McCreadie slipped past Johnson on lap 26 and held off "Doctor J" in a couple of late race restarts to score the win. Johnson and Decker were followed by Fuller and a charging Dale Planck, who moved up several spots in the final few laps to grab fifth. DIRT Modified heats were won by McCreadie, Gill, and Scott Prentice.

Sean Lias continued to show the IMCA Modified field the fast way around in the 20-lap feature event, taking the lead from Cory Fachini on a lap 8 restart. Fachini tried to stay with Lias, but the defending IMCA Modified track champion pulled away from the field. Craig Simmons moved through the pack and had a battle with Bob Bradt for the second spot as the final laps wound down. At the checkers Lias had his fourth win of 1999, followed by Simmons, Bradt, Murphy, and early race leader Pat Hobbs. IMCA Modified heats were won by Hobbs, Simmons, and Lias.

The Dwarf car feature event began with Pat Pontello taking the lead, but the red flag flew on lap 2 as Bob McCarthy took a wild flip under the flagstand. McCarthy was OK, but his car suffered serious damage. On the restart, Troy Van Allen pulled into second and grabbed the lead on lap 5. Kevin Battelle and Pontello continued to fight for second while Dan Boyce moved into contention as well.

Tony Buffa had taken a trip to the pits during the McCarthy flip, but returned to the track and stayed on the lead lap. Through numerous restarts in the second half of the feature, Buffa made some daring moves, finally snaring second spot with a lap and a half to go. However, Van Allen had built up a sizeable lead and took his second checkered flag of the year over Buffa, Battelle, Boyce, and Pontello. Dwarf car heats were won by Boyce, Eric Crawford, and Van Allen.

The 4 Cylinder feature event also had a wild beginning when a multi car tangle in turn two sent Chuck Powelczyk's car into a series of twisting flips. Powelczyk was OK and the car held up enough that he returned to the feature event on the lead lap. Russ Cusson held the lead, but got involved in a battle with two-time winner Lloyd Hinton. After some on track contact, Cusson was sent to the pits on a subsequent yellow flag. Hinton pulled away to record his third win of the season over John Clark, Roger West, Jim Olin, and Ray Chittenden. 4 Cylinder heats were won by Hinton, Powelczyk, and Harvey Calkins Jr.

In a special 358 Modified Dash for Cash presented by Magee Trailer Sales, Steve Hulsizer won over Jeremy Baye and Ryan Baye. Jeremy Baye was the top finishing 358 Modified in the DIRT Modified feature event.

This Friday night, a regular show of DIRT Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf cars, and 4 Cylinders will be presented along with Double Decker Car races. Pepsi will sponsor the night's action with gates opening at 5:30pm and racing starting at 7:30pm.
