Mills is "The Man" in Mid-Season Championship
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 25, 2005)- "Jammin" Jamie Mills picked up the victory in an intense Modified feature this past Saturday Night at the Bridgeport Speedway as Carquest Auto Parts presented the Mid-Season Championship.
Mark Forte led the early laps of the extra-distance Big Block Modified feature event with Mike Franz and Mike Iles right on his heels. As Forte began to pull a way a seven car battle for second position developed with three and four wide action back through the pack. Ricky Elliott, re-uniting with Jake Marine's #85, "rocketed" through the field passing four cars each lap, riding the rim and moving the Art Collins Trucking Teo from his fifteenth starting position to grab the lead at the half way point. Mike Franz proved to be Elliott's only challenge, as he muscled past the #85 down the backstretch with two-thirds of the way through the feature event. With Franz's car fading Mills and Danny Johnson in the J&J Shop #27 moved past the #12 machine and into second and third position respectively. Anything can happen when another five-laps is added - As Elliott's machine crossed the line to complete lap 26 [one more then a regular feature event] it slowed with a left rear flat tire. Setting up a four lap race for the win, with Mills choosing the low side on the restart he pulled away from "The Doctor" and picked up his second win of the season and 14th career speedway victory. Johnson came home second, Point Leader Duane Howard finished third, with Don Barone and Mike Franz with well-deserved top five finishes.
Tim Iulg held off Jeff Mueller to pick up his first Victory in the Jasper Sprint Car Division. Iulg, who has numerous wins in 600cc Micro Sprints on the ΒΌ mile track, grabbed the lead at the halfway point and never looked back becoming the 33rd different winner in the Jasper Sprint Division since its formation in 2000. Mueller came home second with John Wyers, Jim Wyers and Mike Piersig following at the line.
Sam Wescott took full advantage of a second place starting position and led from flag-to-flag in the twenty lap Sportsman feature event. Wescott fought off hard challenges from Bob Lineman Jr. and Richie Pratt Jr., to pick up his second victory of the season. Lineman came home in second, Pratt settled for third, Point Leader John Pursell came home fourth with Jim Britt rounding out the top five.
Pat Conaway continued to dominate the Outlaw Stock Division picking up his eighth win of the season. Conaway came from his eleventh starting position to grab the lead with three laps to go. Conaway fought off a great run from Bill Miller in the #m80 and Joe Trumbetti in the #20. Miller and Trumbetti came home second and third respectively with Gary Klimgczak coming home fourth and Jim Honaker rounding out the top five.
Pat Hires picked up his second victory in the GM Rookie Crate Sportsman division. Hires held off Chad James who was going for the "Spin and Win" combination after an early race altercation. James came home second with Chuck Buchman coming home third and Forrest Peters and Kevin Labs rounding out the top five.
