Epright Electrifies Crowd Saturday at Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 19, 2005)- In a Modified feature event flurried with caution and misfortune Whitehouse Station, NJ's Fritz Epright picked up his first victory at the Speedway since 1990.
"I have to give credit to Al Tischler," Epright stated in Victory Lane "This is our old motor, we lost our new motor and Al did a great job putting this one back together."
A ten car altercation on the initial drop of the green flag collected "hot shoes" - Danny Johnson, Kenny Brightbill, Duane Howard, Kevin Hirthler, Ricky Elliott and Wade Hendrickson. On the restart, Steve Durand grabbed the early lead in the twenty-five lap Big Block Modified feature event with Jamie Mills and "Young Gun" Kyle Strickler right on his bumper. Fritz Epright blasted past three cars on a lap six restart taking over the third position and chasing down the leaders, as Mills powered past Durand on the backstretch. Mills retired his I.G. Burton Dealers #30 Bicknell two laps later with a left rear flat tire. It was all Epright from then on out as he fought off hard challenges from Jimmy Chester, Bob Sarkisian, Kyle Strickler and Rick Laubach to go and capture the victory. Jimmy Chester crossed the line second but was disqualified at the scales handing the runner-up spot to Bob Sarkisian. Kyle Strickler marched his way back to the third position after an early race altercation. Steve Durand came home fourth and Gary Hager came home fifth.
Sewell, NJ's Richie Pratt Jr. picked up his third feature victory of the season in the Sunoco Sportsman race. Pratt took advantage of a great starting position and picked up the lead on lap five of the event. Tom Miller came home second with "The Outlaw" Eric Kormann marching home third, followed by Bob Lilick and Ron Roberts.
John Wyers of Marmora, NJ grabbed the win in the Jasper Sprint Division. Wyers held off a hard charge from Tim Iulg who finished in second, in just his second Jasper Sprint start. Jim Wyers came home third with Bob Rasmussen in fourth and Mares Stellfox rounded the top five.
Pat Conaway continued his successful Outlaw Stock season, beating Joe Trumbetti by a bumper, to pick up his sixth victory of the year. Trumbetti settled for second, Bill Miller came home third, Jeff Dirkes finished fourth and Rick Haegele came home third.
Chuck Buchman won his second GM Rookie Crate Sportsman feature event. Pat Hires came home second with Forrest Peters, Kevin Labs and Point Leader Tracy Rocap rounding out the top five.
