Van Brocklin's patience rewarded on final lap at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-Tim Van Brocklin is a veteran in the Sportsman division at Brockville Ontario Speedway. That extra experience proved to be the difference on Friday night as the Watertown, NY driver took the 20 lap Sportsman feature at the fast quarter mile oval.

Rookie Jim Peters in his Bicknell powered by a crate motor led the first 19 laps until Van Brocklin showed him the front of his car going into turn 1 on the final lap. Peters slid high between turns 1 and 2 opening the door for Van Brocklin to whiz by and take the victory. Chris Herbison took advantage of a second miscue by Peters at the other end of the track to take second spot away as well as the Jasper driver settled for third. Sheldon Hoogwerf and Bob Albright rounded out the top 5.

Danny O Brien put a couple of weeks of frustration behind him. O Brien was on the gas early moving from his fourth starting spot to the lead in 2 laps and then blasting away from the field opening up half a lap leads at will. Despite a late restart, O Brien grabbed his third win of 2005 and grab the points lead all to himself. Chris Jones put in another solid effort to finish second in front of Pat O Brien. John Lazore and John Mulder were fourth and fifth respectively.

There were only 7 cars remaining at the finish of a wild and wooly Street Stock feature race. Billy Code got to the lead early and managed to steer clear of the carnage behind him for the win holding off a late charge from pole sitter Steve Billings. Jason Power got credit for the third spot followed by Jeff Welsh and Jack Code

Jesse Perrin prevailed in a race long battle with Joseph Banks taking the 12 lap Rookie event. Jeremy Levac was third in his Brockville debut followed by another rookie Corey Jalbert and JJ Kane. Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action on Friday night July 1st with a special Canada Day program including trailer racing for the first time. The green flag with all four regular divisions in action as well falls at 7:30 pm
