O Brien continues string of hot finishes at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-The so called experts said small blocks wouldn't be able to run with the big blocks under the new format at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Apparently, someone forgot to tell Danny O Brien and Evoy Racing that. The Kingston hot shoe captured his 3rd Modified feature of the season on Friday night.

O Brien excelled on the dry but smooth surface rocketing through the field in the early laps finally taking the top spot from Jeff Sykes in lapped traffic. Unfortunately, Sykes was taken out when he tried to keep pace with the 83 machine. Mike Adderley held on to finish second despite a lengthy battle with Steve Paine who settled for third. Bryan Rogers and Pat O Brien rounded out the top 5.

There was a new face in victory lane in the 20 lap Sportsman event. Marcel Pecore started in the front row and then held off a spirited challenge from Kyle Dingwall in the closing lap for his first win of the year at Brockville. Dingwall was a bumper back at the finish. Lance Willix was third followed by Tim VanBrocklin and Kees VanWinden who were so close at the line that the computer scoring system had to determine who was fourth and who was fifth.

The Street Stock feature was one of those survival of the fittest affairs with numerous caution flags including 4 in the last 4 laps. Adam Turner squeezed around Jeff Welch on the 19th lap after benefiting from a timely caution flag the previous circuit to capture the 15 lap event. Welch still recorded his best effort at Brockville a second place finish in front of Dana Aikens, Billy Code and Peter Stapper.

The Rookies closed out the night with a bang after Brandon Bolton rolled his Honda flipping 4 or 5 times in turns 1 and 2. Bolton wasn't hurt in the mishap. Billy Woodward Jr. led from start to finish in the 12 lapper with Bob Ray nipping at his heels the final few circuits. Steve Smith was a strong third with Kurtis McPhee and Joseph Banks rounding out the top five.

The Speedway returns to action next Friday night with a full race program including a Syracuse Qualifier for the small blocks. The green flag drops at 7:30.
