O Brien a real paine but Steve prevails
BROCKVILLE-As Steve Paine said in victory lane it was alot of fun for the first 29 laps. Paine held off Danny O Brien in a battle to the finish that had the crowd on their feet Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. It was the Waterloo NY drivers fourth win of the season at Brockville and his third in a big block modified.
Things really heated up when O Brien pulled up on the back nerf bar of the 7x machine on a caution flag with 4 laps remaining. While Paine was comfortably out front, O Brien was forced to come from the back of the field twice. Danny was determined to claim his third straight Brockville victory and did everything possible to do so, grabbing the top spot coming down on the front straightaway as the pair completed lap 29. O Brien however slid just a little bit high in turn 2 allowing Paine to retake the top spot and then win a drag race to the finish off of turn 4. Pat O Brien was third in front of Jeff Sykes and Bryan Rogers.
That wasn't the only barnburner finish of the night as the Street Stocks ran a special extended 40 lap feature. Adam Turner took over the lead when Peter Stapper got caught up with a lapped car around the midway point. Turner appeared headed to the win until the final lap when Ronnie Wadforth slipped by and motored into the winner's circle over his fellow Prince Edward County driver. Dana Aikins recovered from an early incident to finish third followed by Harvey Arquette and Stapper.
The new motor that went into the 66 car of Kyle Dingwall impressed everyone in it's on track test. Dingwall squeaked under Kees VanWinden going down the back straight in the late going to take the 20 lap Sportsman event. VanWinden was a close second with Tim Alton, Randy Earl and Ryan Poole making up the rest of the fast five.
It was a four car scramble in the closing laps in the Rookie feature with Joe Banks prevailing for the win over Dave Blue. Bob Ray was third in front of Billy Woodward Jr. and Dave Watchorn. Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Friday night with a full race program beginning at 7:30. Tickets are still on sale for the Invasion of the Monster Trucks, July 19th, 20th and 21st. Tickets are 10 dollars off when purchased in advance of race day.
