Planck outduels Dingwall in Mod classic at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-It was an epic five lap shootout between Dale Planck of Homer, NY and Brockville’s Chico Dingwall that had fans on the edge of their seats Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Planck beat Dingwall across the line by a car length to claim his third straight 358 Modified feature at Brockville.
It looked like Athen’s rookie Rich Hall would take his first ever Modified win until mechanical problems set in with just 5 laps to go. Dingwall then took over the top spot on the restart and the battle began. He and Planck would swap the lead back and forth 7 times in the final 5 laps running side by side all the way around the fast quarter mile oval. An inside move on the 29th lap put Planck into the lead for good enroute to his fourth win of the year. Dingwall was second followed by Jeff Sykes of Edwards, NY, points leader Lee Gill of LeFargeville, NY and Ron Evoy of Brockville.
Randy Gaudet of North Augusta won his second straight Sportsman main. Gaudet and Kyle Wilson of Joyceville tangled in turn 4 on lap 19 of the 20 lap event. The 15 year old Wilson who had led the entire way spun allowing Gaudet to go on to the victory. Ben Tucker of Redwood, NY got second spot followed by Anthony Fiorentino of Watertown.
Alexandria’s Mark Therrien won a drag race to the finish line after a miscue in turn 3 on the final lap to hold off Ron Morin of Cornwall in the 15 lap Pro Stock event. Greg Hale of Napanee came back from an early incident to finish third. The Novice event was shortened to just 5 laps due to an imposed time limit and numerous cautions. Mallorytown’s Charles Barkley scored his first feature win ever. John Mulder of Spencerville and Todd Raabe of Pembroke rounded out the top 3.
