FOUR MOD RACES, FOUR MOD FACES

BROCKVILLE-Four races into the 2000 racing season and Brockville Ontario Speedway is still looking for its first two time winner in the headlining Modified division. 17 year Frank Caprara of Watertown N.Y. became the latest new face in victory lane with a convincing win in the 25 lap 358 feature on Friday night.

Caprara started outside of row 4 but used a tacky track to his advantage working his way to the front before lap 10. The Sophremore phenom then blew away his nearest competitor Lee Gill of Lefargeville, N.Y.on a restart and was a full straightaway ahead with the checkered flag. All four Modified features so far this year have been taken by invaders from south of the border. Larry Welling Jr. of Fine, N.Y. drove his best race of the year to finish third followed by fellow rookie Rick Cauvier of Iroquois and a hard charging Bill Mullin also of Iroquois.

There was a new face in victory lane in the Sportsman main event as Lance Willix of Theresa, N.Y. captured the win. Willix worked his way to the front slowly but surely taking the special 20 lap Syracuse qualifier only to have the machine quit on its way to the victory celebration. Matt Butler of Canton, N.Y. was second with Ben Tucker of Redwood, N.Y. third to retain his early points lead.

After a clutch problem on opening night, Randy Earl of Brockville has been the man to beat in the Pro Stocks. Earl seized the one opportunity provided by Cornwall’s Ron Morin to get by and drove into the winners circle for the second straight time. Earl squeezed past when Morin got loose in turns 3 and 4 with two laps remaining. Morin was second just in front of defending champ Mark Therrien of Alexandria.

Another wild and wooly Novice event that featured a couple of cars in flames went to Dave Austin of Hardington. Some nifty moves on the last lap gave Terry McCullough of Kingston second with Roger Bushey of Ogdensburg, N.Y. rounding out the top three
