Skebo becomes first Canadian pilot in Victory Lane in 2000

BROCKVILLE-Renfrew’s Jerry Skebo became the first Canadian to win a 358 Modified feature in the new millennium at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Friday night. Skebo started on the pole and led all 25 laps to score his first ever feature win at the B.O.S. and only the second of his young racing career.

Skebo survived restart after restart in the caution filled event, which was red flagged on lap 1 after Clay N.Y’s Scott Parliament ended up on his lid in turn 3. Point leader Lee Gill of LeFargeville, N.Y. was second just behind the Canadian at the finish line with Dale Planck of Homer, N.Y. a strong third. Chico Dingwall of Brockville and Kingston’s Mark Hitchcock rounded out the top 5.

Defending Sportsman track champion Randy Gaudet of North Augusta became the first Canadian to win in that division in the year 2000. Gaudet powered by teenager Kyle Wilson of Joyceville in the early going and cruised to victory by almost a half lap. The youngster held off a determined Ben Tucker of Redwood, N.Y. for second.

A bold move in turn 2 paid off handsomely for Mark Therrien of Alexandria. Therrien used the outside in manouever to blast by Napanee’s Greg Hale and went on to the top spot in the Pro Stock event. Brockville’s Randy Earl came through the field to finish second with Renfrew’s Todd Fletcher third and Hale in fourth.

The black cloud hovering over the car of Lyn’s Dave Wilgosh finally lifted. Wilgosh plagued with mechanical problems in the early going of the season won the 10 lap Novice event. Ogdensburg’s Roger Bushey was second followed by Earl Simmons of Star Lake, N.Y. Pembroke’s Peter Raabe won the special race for mechanics of Pro Stock or Novice cars.

The B.O.S. will be busy again on Sunday afternoon with a special Father’s Day Enduro 200. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m.
