STEEL WINS BY HALF A BUMPER LENGTH AT THE B.O.S.

BROCKVILLE-If it was a horse race, it would have been by a nose. Daryl Steele of Renfrew was declared the winner of the 15 lap Pro Stock feature Friday Night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Steele got his bumper to the finish line just in front of Lee Ladouceur of Alexandria.

The two battled throughout the event with Steele passing Ladouceur to take the lead on lap 12 by trapping him behind a slowing car. Ladouceur stayed on the back bumper the remainder of the race making his move coming off turn 4 on the final circuit coming up just half a bumper short. Marcel Pecore of St. Andrew's West was third.

The best Modified field in sometime showed up to do battle on this non points night. Bath's Todd Stewart continued his late season charge picking up his third win of the year. Kingston's Pat O Brien made one of his infrequent appearances and came on strong in the second half of the race to finish a strong second in the 25 lap tilt. Chico Dingwall of Brockville had another strong run to come home third.

Ben Tucker of Redwood N.Y. dominated the 20 lap Sportsman event. Tucker opened up leads of almost half of a lap in recording his second Brockville win of 1999. Track champ Randy Gaudet of North Augusta and Rich Hall of Athens were second and third respectively.

Pembroke driver Todd Raabe took the 10 lap Novice event with some nifty driving in lapped traffic. John Simmons of Goveuneur N.Y. was second followed by Dave Austin.

The Novice and Pro Stock titles will be decided next week.

The Mr. DIRT series makes its annual visit to the fast quarter mile oval next Friday night for the Jack May Pontiac 100. The local chargers will try to dethrone defending champ Brett Hearn. Race time is 7:30.

The clock is ticking towards the final event of the 1999 racing season at Brockville Ontario Speedway. A Monster Enduro sponsored by Kanes Towing will wrap things up on Sunday afternoon, September 19th at 2 pm.

Track promoter Paul Kirkland is asking competitors in the interests of safety to have a roll cage in their vehicle for this special event. ' The B.O.S. believes in high safety standards and keeping with this philosophy we are recommending a roll cage,' he said. For the the September 19th event a 4 point roll cage is highly recommended but not mandatory.

Roll cages increase safety for the drivers. The extra effort is kind of an insurance policy for the participants in events of this kind. Over $2,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs in the Enduro. The first Enduro at the Speedway in 1999, held in June attracted more than 50 cars. Admission is 10 dollars.
