Zimmerman, Bainey, Taneyhill, Reinhart, Reimert and Peters Headline at Central PA Speedway

8/27/04

Bill Walker

Mother nature tried as hard as she could but was unable to stop the action at Central PA Speedway Friday night and Justin Zimmerman, Jason Bainey, Emory Reinhart Jr., Shawn Reimert and Jason Peters made their sit through a rain delay worth the wait by picking up feature victories.

Out onto the racing surface first were the Doorways K.A.R.S. Sprints with Mike Ressler and Justin Zimmerman showing the way for the twenty five lap main event. As Alan Luzier's green flag waved Zimmerman jumped to the point and within five laps had built a half lap advantage over the rest of his competition. The real battle was waging through the rest of the field and local speedster Jimmy Seger was quickly moving through the field from his seventh place starting position. Working lap seven, Seger made a move down the back stretch that vaulted him into the second position. As the laps ticked off Seger had cut the lead in half and was hopping for a caution. He received his wish on lap twenty three to set up a green, white, checker run to the finish. On the restart Zimmerman got the jump and never looked back as he went on to collect his first ever victory at Central PA Speedway. Chasing Zimmer for the top five positions were Seger, Dan Richcreek, Nate Hammaker and Kevin Nagy.

Next on the blocks would be the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks as Don Geer and Craig Bainey showed the way. On the start it was fourth place starter Aaron Walker gaining the lead followed by C. Bainey and Geer. Working lap three point leader Jason Bainey moved into the second position and a lap later Chad Bender moved by J. Bainey and began to track the leader. Bender had caught the leader and working lap nine was using the high line in turns one and two when Walkers car moved up the racetrack making contact with Bender and then the wall just off of the second turn bringing his evening to and end. Bender's machine sustained front end damage and was forced to the pits for repairs that handed the lead to J. Bainey. With the green flag once again displayed Bainey was able to hold off Cousin Craig for the victory. Behind Bainey rounding out the top five were C. Bainey, Frank Little, Frank Geiser and Sam McClellan up from the sixteenth starting position.

Next to roll out would be the Budweiser Late Models with Bob McMillen and Dwayne Taneyhill pacing the field. At the dropping of the green Taneyhill grabbed the lead and quickly set the pace. Second row starters Bernie Whiteford and Jerry Redden moved into the second and third positions on the second circuit and began to chase the leader. Working lap five, Redden was able to slip by Whiteford and take his turn at pursuing the leader Taneyhill. Redden moved his machine to the rear deck of the leader and just as he began to put pressure on Taneyhill the caution flew for Yvette Hahn who had lost a wheel. On the restart the pair took up battle once again and raced nose to tail for the next several laps. With the time winding down, Redden tried every move in his book but just couldn't muster enough to get around and Taneyhill went on to pick up the victory followed by Redden, Whiteford, Jason Witherite and Jerry Lower.

The Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks would take to the racetrack in the King of the Mountain special with Emory Reinhart Jr. of Morrisdale and Eric Baun of Rossiter on the front row. With the green flag waving Reinhart made his move out front followed by Tom Williams and Gary Little. On lap number four current point leader Denny Fenton was able to get by both Little and Williams and began to run down the leader Reinhart. Fenton would close the gap on the front runner but on lap number ten, something appeared to break on his machine sending him to the pits for the remainder of the event. Working his way forward from deep in the pack was Scott Stein and with just three laps to go moved into the third position as he hopped for a caution that would bunch the field up and give him an opportunity to pick up the victory. The caution never came and Reinhart garnered his third win of the 2004 season at Central PA Speedway followed by Little in his best finish of the season, Stein (up from sixteenth,) Doug Tibbens and Trent Ogden.

Next up would be the main event for the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds with Jimmy Holden and Brent Boyer leading the field to the starter’s stripe. Immediately Holden took the lead and third place starter Bob Garvey moved into the second position to hound the leader. While working lap number four Garvey stuck the move on the youngster Holden and claimed the top spot. Garvey would build a sizable lead as tenth place starter Shawn Reimert moved through the field. On lap nine Reimert moved past Boyer for second and looked to catch the leader. With just two laps to go and victory in sight, Garvey's mount pulled up lame and rolled to a stop on the back stretch. With the green again in the air Reimert needed to hold of point leader Bill Krause and picked up the victory in just his second trip to the fastest short track in PA. Chasing Reimert in the top five were Krause, Brad Rapp, Mike Stine and Ron Butterworth.

The final event of the evening was reserved for the Pepsi Chargers with Chuck Erskine and Jim Woomer leading the field out of the pits. Using the high line in turns one and two, last place starter Denny Weisgarber moved his way around the entire field to claim the lead on lap number one followed by Rob Williams and fellow last row starter Jason Peters. Weisgarber built a lead that it seemed nobody would be able to conquer but on lap number two his chief rival Peters move into second and the chase was on. Peters appeared to be just as fast as Weisgarber but just couldn't close the gap. With the white flag waving and another victory in site for Weisgarber the motor in his Dodge Neon went up in smoke down the back stretch and Peters charged hard and moved by in turns three and four to grab the victory. In the top five behind Peters giving chase were Andy Sura, Mark Vail, Williams and Billy Loner.

Next weeks action will see the Labor Day Special with Fan Appreciation & Autograph night plus a regular show for the Budweiser Late Models, Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks, Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks, Pepsi Chargers and a $1000 to win King of the Mountain Challenge special for the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds. Also on the card will be the first ever appearance of the Green Flag Sprints in Central PA.

Come on down to the BIG BEAR and feed your hunger for excitement.
