The remnants of tropical storm Bonnie threatened to wash out racing action but the Central PA Speedway track crew forged ahead to present a spectacular racing program with Brent Boyer taking the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modified special and Chad Bender picking up top honors in the Lias Tire Pure Street Stock King of the Mountain special. Rick Isadore won his first career Budweiser Late Model feature as Trent Ogden (Shortway Services Inc.) and Denny Weisgarber (Pepsi Chargers) completed the victory lane celebrants.

First to roll onto the racing surface were the Lias Tier Pure Street Stocks for the twelve lap, King of the Mountain event with Aaron Walker and newcomer Dustin Michuck on the front row. At the dropping of Alan Luzier’s green flag Chad Bender wasted no time moving from his sixth place starting position to lead lap number one with Aaron Walker and Todd Bainey giving chase. While working lap five Craig Bainey moved into the third position and began to run down the leaders. A caution with just two laps to go bunched the field and gave Walker and Bainey one last shot at Bender’s lead. The top trio moved out but Bender was just too tough and picked up the victory over Walker, C. Bainey, T. Bainey and Jason Bainey who moved all the way up from the fourteenth starting position.

Next up would be the Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks and current point leader Denny Fenton and Trent Ogden would lead the field to the green flag. At the onset Fenton immediately moved out front and opened a sizeable lead as Ogden and Dan Smeal began a fierce battle for the second position. On lap number eight, leader Fenton who had built up a lead of nearly a full straightaway pulled up lame off of turn four and coasted to the pits. The fierce battle that raged for second position now became the race to the checkers and the duo battled it out door to door and nose to tail over the final five laps with Ogden claiming his second victory of the 2004 season. Chasing Ogden at the line were Smeal, Dayton Nixon, Emory Reinhart moving up from the last starting position and Doug Tibbens.

In the Budweiser Late Model main event Bob McMillen and Shawn McGarvey brought the field of twenty one to the starter’s stripe. At the onset McGarvey would jump to the point and Jerry Lower followed from his fourth place starting position. One lap later Cyclone’s Rick Isadore moved past McMillen for third and looked to reel in the leaders. The top three remained unchanged throughout the middle stages of the race but on lap eighteen Isadore got by the Lower machine and working through turn four on the high line, moved by McGarvey for the lead. A slight touch by the two leaders as McGarvey’s mount slid up the racetrack a little sent him spinning towards the infield to bring out a caution and set up a green, white, checker finish. With the green in the air Isadore was able to hold off Lower for the final two circuits to gather his first career Central PA Speedway victory. Chasing Isadore for top five positions were Lower, Luke Hoffner, Bernie Whiteford and Dwayne Taneyhill.

The big show was up next as the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds were racing extra laps and a $1000 payday going to the victor. Matt Baker and Jimmy Holden led the full field of small block mods to the start. Holden quickly move out front and brought Mike Butterworth along into second. Holden opened a large lead and it looked as though the youngster was back after experiencing several weeks of engine problems. Just past the halfway point twelfth place starter Brent Boyer who had worked high, low and in the middle slipped by Butterworth and immediately began to reel in the leader. It only took three laps to erase Holden’s lead and put Boyer on the leaders rear nerf bar. While working lap fourteen, Boyer moved high and made his way around to claim the lead. Once out front Boyer began to open up a lead and moved away from the field as Kevin Hoffman powered by Butterworth and started to chase Holden for second. In the end it was Boyer garnering the victory as Holden, Hoffman, Butterworth and Bill Krause rounded the top five.

The final event of the evening would see the Pepsi Chargers rolling onto the racing surface with Greg Satterlee and Denny Weisgarber showing the way. With the green flag waving Weisgarber was able to move to the lead followed by Satterlee and Mark Vail. The race to watch on the track seemed to be in the middle of the pack as Brandon Connor, Andy Sura and Jason Peters would battle for the fourth, fifth and sixth positions. In the end it was Weisgarber showing why he is the King of the Chargers in picking up the victory over Satterlee, Vail, Sura and Connor.

In the Bears Den: Eighty four cars braved the questionable weather including twenty one Stocker Chevrolet small Block Modifieds, twenty one Budweiser Late Models, seventeen Lias Tier Pure Street Stocks, thirteen Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks and twelve Pepsi Chargers.

Next weeks racing action will mark the first appearance of the Doorways Unlimited K.A.R.S. 358 Sprint Series at Central PA Speedway. Local sprint car hot shoe Jimmy Seager will team up with Dave DeLisle to take on K.A.R.S. regulars like current points leader Dan Richcreek, Kevin Nagy and Nate Hammaker.
